Hi. i'm about ready to pull my hair out trying to get my idvd8p io magic external usb 2.0 dvd-rw to actually use usb 2.0. It always connects to a root hub that is OpenHCD, not Enhanced, so it runs way, way too slow. is there a firmware update that rectifies the way Windows sees the device's usb value? or is there any workaround known to get this to work? i'm running Windows 7 x64 on a dell studio xps 1340.

Try hooking the unit directly to PC. No hub unless you use an AC outlet or USB I/OYCable Mod # AC-YCAB it requires 2 USB ports for power. With this cable no need for AC Power

My USB LG Super Multi Drive GP08NU6B is often either not recognised at all, or the contents of the CD/DVD can't by 'seen' by my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit PC in South Africa - even those files which were...

I have had a similar problem with this drive and windows 7. The device was not receiving enough power to operate. I found 2 solutions:
1) If connecting through a usb extension, plug in both USB connecters on the DVD's power cable.
2) Try plugging directly into the PC"s USB ports. Remember to always use the USB on the power cord that has the 2 wires connecting to it.

If this does not work, the drivers may have become corrupted. If so, let me know and I will walk you through it

How to install I/O Magic DVD without CD?

If you have an internet connection, you can search for a Magic DVD .iso file. An .iso file is an "image" of a CD that you can load with a CD-Emulator like Magic Disc.

Once you have the .iso and Magic Disc, you can mount the .iso and it will treat it the same way it would if you had the CD-ROM loaded in your drive.

From there, you can explore the .iso or run the programs from it.

My computer wont recognize my external hard drve and the io magic light is blinking

Try connecting the external hard-drive to a different computer. If it still fails, and it is still under warranty, then exercise the warranty to get it replaced.

If the warranty has expired, open the case, and remove the disk-drive, disconnecting it from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter.

Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer, to see if the disk is recognized.
If it is, then the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has failed, and you could go to any computer-store to buy a new external case and adapter, and mount your disk-drive inside the new case, and work with your files.

If the disk-drive is not recognized, check the warranty on the disk-drive itself.

I have a HP External USB CD/DVD R/RW drive. Stopped working.

First, try a new USB cable. Two, try a different USB port (if using a hub, directly connect to the computer). Three, check if there are any updated drivers or firmware for the drive.

(also make sure that the external drive is self-powered that the cord is undamaged and the power isn't surging or going into a brown-out. If it is one of the new bus-powered DVD drives, make sure that the computer has a good power source (not on battery for a laptop).)

No, but since it is new you could always take it back from where you bought it for a replacement.

Problem with installation of external dvd drive

I am also trying to get one of these drives working.  One "quirk" about this drive is that it actually uses two USB ports and a rechargeable battery when it is not connected to the AC adapter.  Why?  Because it draws a lot of current - each USB port on a laptop can supply a limited amount of current.  Using two USB ports allows the drive to draw the amount of current it needs.  So I would suggest using two USB cables.  Weird huh?
You might be able to get away with using just one USB cable if you have the AC adapter connected.
