Managed to resolve my dark screen issue. It is a little weird and not sure which combination actually got it going but it works. I firstly connected the TV POD unit to the AV700 and used the remote and no joy. With the TV POD unit still connected, I fiddled with the battery latch switch a few times and VOILA! - the screen came back to life and all is now good. I hope it is as easy as that for all of you....

This is a different model in the States. If this has a display for the Navigation there are controls to set for brightness and auto adjustment for day and night. These controls are reached within the programming of the Navigation screen and independent of the dash lights switch.
You are probably zoned out of making adjustments when the screen is dark. So you will need to tinker with this when you can see the screen better.
On our vehicles the headlight dimmer switch only controls the dash lights. Could be you had this vehicle serviced. Sometimes when an OIL CHANGE is done the service technician wants to reset the oil interval and goofs up some other settings in the process. Think about when the problem started and if someone else had their hands on your vehicle.
There is usually a controller either on the dashboard or steering column whereby you can adjust the brightness of the dash lights.you may be inadvently touching this without realizing .if you don't have the handbook try googling online.
also try this, facing the front of your screen. locate a button indicating " menu" and click it. once the menu button been activated there would be a display box indicating "AUDIO" "VIDEO" "TUNNING" or in some cases the screen will indicate one by one setting every time you press the "menu" button. If you'll able to find a display indicating "video" higlight the said icon and navigate throught it until you see the control for brightness. you can navigate the icon by pressing +/- channel button and to change the value of selected item you need to press +/- volume button of the screen.
you probably have a bad capacitor on the invertor board. try shining a flashlight into it to see if you can see anything. if capacitors are good, you might have some burnt out backlight bulbs. i just had the same problem, replaced the capacitors but messed something else up on the way i guess cause now all i have is a bright white screen with a few colors here and there.
Most PS2 games are dark and auto brightness controls will casue your LCD tv to brighten up automatically in response the dark video coming from PS2 games. I suggest you get into the menu settings of your TV and find a setting that will shut off the auto picture controls.
