I realize it is probably a brightness or a backscreen problem, but if it is dark, how am i supposed to navigate the controls? is there a way to do it from a connected computer?
Managed to resolve my dark screen issue. It is a little weird and not sure which combination actually got it going but it works. I firstly connected the TV POD unit to the AV700 and used the remote and no joy. With the TV POD unit still connected, I fiddled with the battery latch switch a few times and VOILA! - the screen came back to life and all is now good.
I hope it is as easy as that for all of you....
I tried resolving my dark screen issue using Solution #1. I had the TVPod attached and removed the battery three times. On the third time the screen came back to life also! Thank you and good luck.

After 6 months "rest" I just pulled my 700 out of the drawer and the screen is almost completely dark.
A fix for his would be great!
My Archos has a dark sreen after laying up for 2 months. I can just about read it by shining a torch on the screen
Same as above, no usage for some time, and the screen is dark. All the rest is ok.
My ARCHOS AV700 has been 'rested' for over 6 months and when I power it on, all I get is a dark screen.I know all the files are there as when I connect the USB cable to my pc, I can see the various files. Any ideas?
I have the same problem but don't have any pod adapters to attach etc... I must have only used it a few times & not for 4 months or so. The battery is fully charged and I can just see the darkness of the icons etc... Please help, any ideas? I have played with the battery latch, but no luck. What do I do now? I refuse to pay for Archos to repair it after so little use. Thanks - Ian.
