I have a modem arris cm450b, i bought splitter to use 2 cables but the the cable connected to my sons computr isn't working

That is not the right way to do it. Connect one computer to the cable modem using an USB A/B cable from the USB port on the modem to an available USB port on the computer and connect the second computer to the modem Ethernet port-to-Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable (probably the modem came with one Ethernet cable).

Hope this helps.

New modem installed and router won't work now

First step is to make sure if the modem is working. Connect your computer directly to modem with ethernet cable and see if you can log on to internet! if yes
next step connect modem to your router's WAN port with an ethernet cable and then connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of router with ethernet cable. Power down all devices and power up modem first wait until all lights are on and then router wait until all lights are on then your computer! 9 out of 10 times this works! try good luck!!

I got a NETGEAR router and I have been trying to get my Motorola SURFboard to recognize it. I had the USB connection installed and the NETGEAR uses ethernet, so I tried to install the ethernet but my...

The Cable modem must be disconnected from the computer. You cannot use USB and Ethernet at the same time.

1. Turn off power to the Cable Modem and the Netgear Router. Do the same with the computer.
2. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port.
3. Connect another ethernet cable from one of the remaining 4 LAN ports on the router to the computer's ethernet port.

4. Now power on the Cable Modem ONLY. Wait for the modem to sync up with your service provider
5. After about 2-5 minutes power up the router and wait about 1-2 minutes.
6. Now power on your PC.

Check and see if you have internet access. If not you may have to uninstall any cable modem software related to USB connection. if this is the case, then you may have to repeat steps 4-6.

Since most cable internet providers do not use proprietary connection settings, your internet connection should be up and running without changing any settings in the router or modem.

If this does not resolve your issues, we can continue to work with you.

First, power down your computer and disconect the power cable to the cable modem.

Install Ethernet cable from the WAN/Internet port to the Cable modem's WAN port.
then install an Ethernet cable from port 1 to your computer. you can use ports1,2,3,4 for different computers.

Then power up the cable modem, then your computer. You should be able to get on the net.

Followed all the set up steps but my DSL light would not stay on

  • 1 Plug the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on your wall. If you do not have Internet ports installed in your home, connect a phone line adapter to a phone line jack. The adapter makes the phone line wider so Ethernet cables can connect to it. This does not block your phone from use.
  • 2 Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the back side of the Netgear DSL modem.
  • 3 Connect the Netgear DSL modem to a local power source. The power plug inserts into the modem via a small port on the rear of the modem.
  • 4 Insert a second Ethernet cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of the modem. Run the cable to your computer and plug it into the Ethernet port on the computer.
  • 5 Look on the back end of the DSL modem for an HTTP: address. Type this into your Internet browser's search bar. The Netgear DSL modem menu appears on the screen.
  • 6 Select how many computers are to use the modem, if you are using it with other DSL modems and set up a password (the default username and password is "admin"). Click "OK" to initiate the changes you made to the menu. You can now use your Netgear DSL modem to connect to the Internet.

I'm trying to hookup a usb modem broadband to a router for a desktop and laptop

This wireless router does not have any USB connection on it. Types of connection available on this router are wireless and Ethernet. You can check on the modem if there is an Ethernet port on it.

If your modem has an Ethernet port, I recommend that you test the Ethernet connection using one of your computers. We want to make sure that the Ethernet connection on the modem is enabled. If not, you may need to contact your ISP or the modem manufacturer to make sure that the Ethernet will work before you install the router.

If your modem does not have have an Ethernet port on it. This is not the router that will do the work for you. And I personally does not seen any router yet with the USB port for the modem.

Can the modem's ethernet port connect to a video game console?

Most modems that have both usb & ethernet connectors are either/or, not both. I recommend using
the ethernet connection to your computer than the usb - the ethernet connection is faster & more
reliable. It also frees up your usb port for other use. If you want both your computer & game console on
the internet, then you need to buy a router which will allow you to share the modem.

4100 Modem telling me to install ethernet adapter

You do not state if the ethernet had been working before. If this is the first time to use the port on the computer, it often needs to be turned on in the BIOS of the mother board.

    Install

If the modem is already registered to your ISP then you can plug the modem to your computer using an Ethernet cable (CAT5) to your computer's ethernet port and to the modem's port as well.

If you want to use the USB cable then you need to install the drivers for it. You may go to motorola website and type in the model number of your modem to get and download the drivers.

Though, I suggest that you use the Ethernet connection instead.
