After you change the IP address of your Router, you have to reset your Network Card IP address if it is Dynamic. If your IP address is Static you need to manually make these changes from within Windows. Else, reset your computer and try accessing the newly issued IP address for your Router.
Close all Browser Windows and Programs before continuing. From the Command Prompt, type:
this works exactly as like a built in LAN adapter to your laptop. You may use this as a backup for your built in laptop LAN adapter. Altough this is more useful for some IT professionals who sometimes require a two LAN setup. I have also attached a useful guide that if found on the product catalogue itself.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES Connect to your wired home network by adding a D-Link 10/100 Fast Ethernet Notebook Adapter to your notebook computer. Once connected, you can access shared documents, music, and photos from other computers in your network. If your network has a high-speed Internet connection, you can also check e-mail, browse the web, and chat with friends and family online.
first, switch off computer and remove physically card from the computer, then de-install all possible traces of it, run ccleaner and clean the computer as well as registry. go to d-link site and download newest drivers for your adapter, and os (vista). unfold software to c:/dlink
switch off computer again, re-install card and re-power the computer.
when automatic software install start, select manual install, point to newly created folder c:/dlink and select appriopriate driver from there, install.
this procedure usually solves the problem, vista try to instal generic windows drivers not specific hardware drivers, to prevent occurence of that, disable automatic updates in vista, and once a month or so, do only and only security updates from windows, never, ever update your hardware drivers from windows as these are just generic drivers generating more problems than solving. hope this help.

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) require that you "register" the 'MAC' (not an Apple --> Media Acquisition Control) address of the network-adapter of your computer (or router) with the ISP,
before the ISP will allow your computer (or router) to be provisioned.
Your router has a different MAC-address than your computer.
So, your computer works with its "registered" MAC-address,
but your router cannot connect with its "unregistered" MAC-address.
Access the web-server inside the router, and click the 'Clone MAC-address' button, and restart the router.
Then, the router will send the MAC-address of your computer, rather than its own MAC-address, to your ISP.
You cannot configure the DLink by the URL address http://dlinkap?
You connect a LAN cable from your computer to the DLink.
Then open Internet Explorer and enter the URL http://192.168.0.1
the default login = admin
the PW is blank (just press Enter)
You can now configure the DLink.
On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?
Do this setup.
Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.
Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.
Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.
If you check your computer's IP address, is it getting one from the router? Normally out of the box these routers are setup to give out DHCP, which basically means that your computer, if also set that way (again, default) will grab any necessary info from the router (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc).
You didn't at some point set your PC to use a static IP address that's different than the D-Link's subnet did you? D-Links default to 192.168.0.1, so your computer should be getting an IP in that range as well.
