Need some more information, are you vacuuming dry wall dust or wet dust or saw dust ? The reason I ask is sometime their are "upgrades" available for the newer models of vacs you may not be aware of, when I worked at the Big Box H D tool rental center the vac we rented out used a water filtration set up instead of bags U might wont to check newer model for any changes, like you ,I had Craftsman for over 15 yrs. and when it died the replacement vac had a new mod for the filter that I always thought was needed. if the charger is working, and the battery does not hold a charge for very long, you will need a replacement battery. this is the most likely problem. if the battery does not charge at all it may well be the charger and you will need to replace that.

This vacuum has a history of problems with the battery contacts. Check that yours are not bent out of shape or corroded. if they are... straighten them or remove the corrosion.
