I have a Kirby Generation 3. The handle spring assembly is broke, so I took it apart to get a part number. Can you tell me if there is a cross reference or something on these parts. I am unable to find a part with the same number that is located on the part I took off. The number on this spring assembly shows Kirby HA-670289B K-1. Any help finding this part is appreciated.

Yes you need that part (Picture here). There is a spring in this part that is either tired either broken. This is pretty common for G3.
Did not quite get what switch are you referring to? If this is a lever on this pivot spring assembly - new ones do not have it.
Good Luck

SOURCE: Kirby Vacuum

G3 was made 1990 -1993. Kirby sales people make big fuzz about Kirby vacuums sold online saying that it must be stolen to be so cheap. They probably just want to find distributors who sell new Kirby vacuums online so they are trying to get a serial number. If it was stolen prior owned must have reported it to Kirby Company and this is very unlikely even thought it is possible.

SOURCE: Kirby G6 won't turn on.

If the brushead is removed, there is a safety switch which prevent the machine from operating if the brushead is removed or not installed correctly.Either this switch or the main power switch could be the culprit,as well as the cord.

SOURCE: The bag latch on my Kirby Generation 3 broke. How

at the bottom of the bag, there is a zip tie around the plastic part that turns & snaps on to the exhaust hole of the vac. also take a flat screwdriver & pull up the rubber under the zip tie...all the way around, like u would take a bike tire off a rim . then pull the bag holder/tube thru the bottom, then vise versa, when u put it back on.

Splicing kirby electric cord

If you are unsure on how to splice the cord back together it may be best to just purchase a new cord. You can find a new G6 cord and it is easily installed into the switch at the base of the Kirby.

Regarding my Kirby Generation 3 upright vacuum cleaner: the handle does not lock into place, but rather falls to the floor. Any thoughts on how to get it to stay in place? Also, I lost my owner/operator...

The plate that catches the handle to lock has a hidden spring behind that plate.I would leave it alone for the unit is pressed together. Used ones are found most everyday on Ebay. The owners manual maybe found on this website

I need to remove the top of the motor unit on a Kirby Generation 3 to access the motor area of the vacuum

First remove the back, then remove the handle assembly. Then pop off the plastic switch cover and it has one screw on the back you will need to take out, then there are two screws in the front of the body housing and two on the back that you will need to take out and then you are ready to take the top cover off and get into the motor area.

Vacuum won't switch on;got it apart;cord ok;need wiring diagram

Its a great idea to write on paper how its connected . So it helps with dis assembly & reassembly . I tried a Internet search . Looks like it'd cost money for a service manual. Though. I found a Kirby Spares Website that could help. Although it doesnt have Document downloads with repair help. There are spares & there is a telephone number for an engineer available during office hours. That you could ask for repair help. With wiring connections for your Kirby G3.

Replace release button on kirby 3

I assume you are talking about the release on the handle pivot. Unhook the bag so it is out of the way, take the hanle off, take the top cover off, then there 2 screws holding the handle oivot asm, take them out, replace witht he new one, making sure that the the piece that hangs down meshes with the transmission. Then reasmble.
