DVD froze while playing and is stuck in slot located on top of flatscreen TV. Manual and remote eject do not work. Picture on screen shows position scene where player froze, like a screen saver. DVD rises up out of slot when working properly. Any suggestions?

I bought this for my 7 year old son and TV-DVD worked great for about a year ,now the dvd will not read. It comes up improper disc format while saying loading.
The DVD player will not work. It appears something is in there blocking a new DVD to be played. It will not eject or accept a new one. Please help.
