Problem with my built in wireless

You'll need to visit Toshiba's site to locate and download the wireless drivers for your model. Reinstall the drivers and you'll have your wireless access again.

hi klb19,
how far are you from the router? have you tried using your sons computer near your area? is your laptop wifi capable?

click start, run and type in "services.msc" without quotes
look for wireless zero configuration and see if the status is started,if not, right click on it and select start,

right click your wireless icon at the lower right corner of your desktop and select view wireless connections. did it work?

let me know if it works. :)

Cannot connect to internet through router

there might be a wireless setting that is not yet set properly on your son's laptop. If there is a wireless security enabled on your dell router, you have to enter that so that the laptop will connect. Also, if you are using Windows xp or vista, you can try to remove the preferred networks first before reconnecting.

If the same problem occurs, you can try changing the channel on your router and make sure that the SSID set is personalized. If this still does not help, you can try bringing your son's laptop to a hotspot to check if it can connect. If it doesn't then the problem is on the wireless adapter of the laptop, you can try to update the drivers for that one.

If you encounter any problems, just click on the ask me button and I'll help you with your concern as soon as I can.

Linksys Wireless-G (WRT54GS (EU/LA/UK))

I have had that issue quite often and found that when you are using a router with DSL, the DSL modem and Router IP has a conflict because they are the same number. I suggest looking into a D-Link wireless router for use with DSL.

Are you trying to connect the laptop using wireless? If so, you probably don't have the wireless settings from your router setup on the laptop. If you have a Windows based computer, click START => RUN.., type CMD, then hit OK. A black DOS window will appear. Type IPCONFIG and hit ENTER. You should see something like this:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.xxx
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Open your web browser and type in the address you see next to "Default Gateway" (in this example it's 192.168.0.1). This *should* be your router. Hit ENTER and you should connect to your router's web interface. From here you can find your wireless settings and match them on your laptop.

Laptops also usually have off/on switches for the wireless feature. Check to make sure you have the wireless card actually turned on. That is a simple mistake people make.

I hope this somehow helps.
