Hello,

Take off the back panel in the freezer. 1/4" screws. Use a nut driver or ratchet and socket with an extension.
2. Behind the frost is the evaporator and the defrost heaters. One heater in the middle and one at the bottom. They are glass tubes. If you can see the bottom heater that is great. If not use a hair dryer and defrost only the very bottom to expose the lower heater only.
3. Now in the refrigerator section at the top where the controls are, take off the long plastic piece to expose the timer. The timer should be on the right hand side and have a little circle that is slotted. Get a flat screwdriver and turn that timer slowly clockwise just until it clicks and the refrigerator turns off. This will put it into defrost.
4. Now look at that heater that you exposed and see if it glows and gets hot. If it does, then the timer is bad.
5. If the heater doesn't come on then go ahead and defrost the rest of the evaporator with the hair dryer. This will take a little while. Don't poke at the evaporator!!!
6. Once totally defrosted look at both heaters. They should look like clear glass and see a silver coil running thru them. If they look discolored at all then the heaters are bad. The heaters come as a complete assembly with the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator.
7. If the heaters look ok the only way to know for sure if they are bad is to check continuity with a meter on the plug at the end of their wiring harness. If you can check that then you can splice in a new defrost thermostat to solve the problem. However the best thing to do is replace the heaters and defrost thermostat . It is easy to install.
Follow these steps and this will solve your problem.

Hope this helpout......

Ice will not dispense. Ice maker working and water will dispense.

The micro switch that activates the auger is likely failed.
It is at the top of the fountain lever for ice.

My ice maker has stopped working, the water continues to dispense thru the door yet the ice has stopped

Most likely the water control valve on the rear of the refrigerator is defective for the ice maker side of the valve. Try filling the ice maker with tap water and let freeze. If the ice drops and cycles and does not refill then the water valve is the problem. If the ice maker does nothing when you try this the ice maker is the reason. Send me your model number and I can tell you the parts that need replaced. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice maker does not make ice. water will dispense thru door and I replace the water filter every six months.

I had the same problem. There is air in the line therefore you need to dispense about 3 gallons of water from the dispenser and that should slove the problem. Also, take a clean soft cloth or paper iowel and wipe the ice make sensor (if you have one) and the reciever. There is one on each side of slightly below the ice maker. Should be a flashing or steady red light ....follow the flashing red light to the other side.

Freezer does not make ice

You need to check and see if ice maker has any water init. if not check the fill tube that goes thru the back wall for stoppage while you have it out rin the maker thru a harvest mode and listen for the sounds of the solonoid opening. If tube is full you'll need to replace the slow leaking valve a common problem. for parts call 704-819-6557

Whirlpool gold ice maker problem

  • The refrigerator has a duel water valve, one for the ice-maker and one for the water dispenser (if equipped). The valve that the ice-maker relies on may be bad, or it could be the ice-maker itself.
  • Another thing that could cause it would be the temperatures in the freezer. The ice-maker will not call for water until it reaches under 15 degrees.
  • In addition, check the water tube behind the ice-maker to make sure it is not frozen, blocking more water from entering.
  • note: The water does not go to the ice-maker or thru the filter unless the ice-maker turns on the water valve.
