Unfortunately the battery in the nuvi 660, like most garmin satnavs, is not user replaceable. To have it replaced it needs to be sent to garmin. Garmin contact details can be found at http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/support/supportcontact

SOURCE: replacement battery for Garmin Nuvi 660

I read that the front cover around the screen can be pried off, this must be removed to gain access to battery, I would suggest a thin piece of rigid plastic as it will no damage the cover and body edges. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 660 dead battery?

Normal 0 Garmin NUVI 660 instructions

It is pretty easy to open up your nuvi,(but not recommended by Garmin or me)...
looking at your nuvi from the back flip up the antenna. You will see two tiny torx screws on the antenna. Remove them and carefully seperate the antenna housing. Pay attention to how the antenna flex is seated because reassembling the antenna housing can be tricky. On the left bottom side the pin assembly that holds the antenna in is spring loaded. Pull the pin towards the center and you will be able to seperate the antenna housing from the unit. Underneath you will find two more tiny torx screws holding the main housing togather. Remove those two screws and you are almost home. Now you need the special plastic tool that you can get on ebay. The tool is used for opening ipods without mangling them. Gently pry the case apart with this tool. Start where ever it is easiest to get the tool in. Once opened you can figure the rest out for yourself. The battery is flat and rectangular and is seated behind the circuit bourd attached to the back cover.

Install replacement battery in Garmin Nüvi 660 and 670. How is cabinet opened?

The Garmin 660 and 670 like most Garmin satnavs cannnot be opened unfortunately. Garmin say that the battery may be replaced by sending the unit back to them only.

Unit shuts down after about one minute.

When you leave a Nuvi on a charger for several hours and don't see full green bars, this is an indication that the battery is defective. Most Nuvi batteries last about 2 years. Most of the batteries have a date code of 2007. I would have the battery replaced as soon as possible as it can bloat and crack the case open. More info can be found here:

HOW DO I INSTALL A BATTERY IN MY GARMIN NUVI 660

Replacing the nuvi 660's battery is actually not all that hard as this video demonstrates:
utube.png You-Tube video "S2KEu_if7wA" placeholder (do not delete) utube.png
The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to do this yourself if you'd like. See: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GARMIN+NUVI+660&Show=ExtInfo I swapped the battery of a friend's dying GPS using the aforementioned kit and all went well. His nuvi 680 is back up and running smoothly.

Garmin Nuvi 660 shutting off

It sounds like your battery is defective. They can be replaced. The Motorola phone cable is not wired exactly like the Garmin, and your Nuvi thinks it's connected to a PC. Radio Shack carries a charger for the Nuvi. I have one myself.

Let me know if you need additional help with your battery problem.
