There are hidden spring releases about 2 or 3 inches in from each left and right corner under the top. you need a narrow putty knife to push and find them, but you push in towards the rear of the machine to release them, then lift the top as you do..
good luck, have fun.

Washing machine making funny noise

'Funny noises' are difficult to diagnose, but it could be the gearbox or clutch, or it might just be the belt as the drum isn't turning. There is a belt replacement video in the link

Kenmore he3 dryer front load knocking noise

Check the tensioner pulley that keeps the belt tight. It is next to the motor and the bearing may be shot.

While in spin cycle our washer is making this noise like metal balls clanking together. I thought maybe the washer was out of balance, but it wasn't. My husband thinks it's a bolt or a penny that's stuck...

Yes, your husband is correct, it is coins. There is a filter trap at the bottom of the tub. You can access this after removing the rear panel. My husband pulled 45 cents worth of coins out of ours. You will need to disconnect a hose and remove a couple of screws to get to it. Hope this helps. This has been just one of the many problems we have had with this machine.

Whirpool Duet Sport Front Loading Washer is making a funny noise

open top cover (two or three screws on rear and slide back) and look at rear of tub checking clearance to rear panel and nothing touching belt or pulley. whirlpools tend to have a high pitch low volume whine anytime motor operates.
you really dont want to replace that bearing. part of tub assm. $400 part plus labor
