I have a Toshiba Satelitte P305D-S8834 lap top computer.
And am experiencing
Unexpected shut downs. when trying to restart; the first attempt it will try to restart then shut down again, second attempt I get the start normally, safe mode screen, then third attempt I get windows detected start up problems, would you like to repair/restore. After going through the start up repair, the computer comes back on and stays on. This has happened a dozen times in the past three weeks.
Do you have any idea what may be causing this problem? I searched the Toshiba support and found others were were experiencing shut downs, although none of them listed that they were being taken to the start up problem page when shutting down. Most of the answers that were given them was that the computer was over heating.
Please Help
Thank You

What you are experiencing with your laptop is "POST" (Power-on self test) issue. Here are some steps which you can try.
- Remove the battery and ac adapter (as well as external peripherals attached), press the power button for atleast 15 seconds, try to power on your computer again.
- If you have external monitor, hook it up. Display on the external monitor would mean that you have a LCD issue (check LCD cable, LCD inverter and LCD backlight in this case). No display on the external monitor would mean that you need to replace the video card (if dedicated) or replace the whole system board (if integrated).
- Try to reseat or replace the memory module as well, it might help.
More an likely its your LCD. If it powers up and you are getting a hard drive activity light then that points to your LCD, could be a damaged backlight or inverter.
Changing CPU is a serious change. When your unit was built the processor speed and type were written into the BIOS. When we change the CPU to a different type there is a chance that the BIOS will not recognize it and refuse to boot up. Also Windows was installed with the original CPU and a major change in hardware could mess up Windows.
I did some research and found this model comes with a 2.0-GHz AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core RM-70 CPU and 4GB of RAM. This is not the fastest CPU that can be put in a laptop but a very good one. (faster than mine)
I can guide you through the steps to replace it but my advice is stick with what you have until it breaks and buy a faster laptop. The upgrade won't gain you enough to justify the expense.
when your computer is booting up continuously keep clicking the F8 button until a selectioN of options appears on the screen ,then select the option " last good configuration" and click enter , This should sort reconfigure your laptop.
Hi, lets restore your ("systems configuration"), by doing the following: From the Start Menu, Type: Toshiba, in the "search box." Next find the Toshiba Application Installer, if your computer have this "Function?" it would make the process alot easier; open the (TAI), and click next, you can select from different Drivers to Install, click to (highlight), click on the install button. "It is hightly recommend to restart the computer, when finished!" "Did this solution help?"
have you done a maintainance on it to get rid of all the excess information?? if not..go to start--then all programs, then accessories, then tools, click on disk cleanup. click on yes to all when the pop up box show up.
after this do a defragmentation-- go to start, all programs, then accessories, then tools, then disk defragmenter. click on analisys-- this will tell you if you need to defrag your system. if yes-- do it..it will take time to defrag, but it will speed up you game play ability.
I have two Toshiba lap tops, I had the same problems which you have, tell you the truth, I took them to Bevely Hills factory warranty shop changed the mother board and then after eight months, I had some other problems, total five times in the repaire shop and finally passed the warranty. It is totally gone.
I know this can not help you at all, remember four years ago, Toshiba been suit, finally I got two years factory warranty for my lap tops, I wasted too much of my time to solve the problems but both lap top I can not use anymore,
