Sony STR-DH510 Multi-channel AV receiver connected to cambridge soundworks ensemble IV w/ passive subwoofer: no sound from center channel during viewing, or during speaker level test- all other speakers emit tone, but center is dead. I have optical digital cable and hdmi connected to Sony. Also using Sony Bravia 52" lcd. Tried new speaker wire, and connecting center speaker to different channel, where it worked- not a speaker problem. Not sure where to go from here...

The STR directs sound to the center as instructed by its speaker setup. You say the center does not work on calibration. Is it defined?

Prove another speaker does or does not work on the center output. Then we'll know if it's the receiver or the speaker ensemble that has the problem.

Have you checked the manual for this "
There is no sound, or only a very low-level sound is heard from the center/ surround. "?

I have the sony str-de1075 reciever.i want to hook up a sub-woofer.but it only has 2 single port.not your reg.rca ports.what do i do..thanks..

Sorry but it's not clear enough what kind of subwoofer (passive or active) you want to use. The passive one has no power supply connection, the active one has a power supply connector and the audio connector can be connected at the "audio out" for the subwoofer, at the rear panel of your STR-DE1075. Take a look at this photo:

Can I connect a passive subwoofer Sony SS-W581T to a SONY receiver STR-DH510 ? Thank you

No. Like most AVR's it only provides a Line Level output for an externally powered subwoofer. Get a separate amp for the sub.

Can I connect a active subwoofer to my SONY STR-DE597 Powerful 6.1 channel AV Receiver

Yes, it only supports an Active Subwoofer. That's what the Sub Pre-Out is for.

Your sub will take that input, possibly split to two RCA connectors, and its internal amplifier will do the rest. Its own manual will give the specifics.

Subwoofer does not kick in during stereo mode with front speakers

There should be an adjustment in setup that for 2 channel sources, you may have to enable the subwoofer output. Or alternatively, if the subwoofer output for 2 channel sources is in fact enabled, then increase the crossover frequency for the sub.
