Memory Upgrade: (Micro Star) MS ? 7061 Board Model: KM266-8237

Hello,

I’m not a gamer, but I would like to upgrade my current machine for until I can afford a new one. I run programs like Photoshop, Adobe Flash, along with other types of similar software that all need better performance.

My motherboard is a (Micro Star) MS – 7061 (N1996) Board Model: KM266-8237. My processor is an AMD Sempron 2400+ 1.67 GHz. I currently have 320 MB of RAM and I’m running Windows XP Professional.

I need a memory upgrade and the information on this motherboard is very limited or non-existent. Is 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz compatible this machine?

I do not have a manual for this motherboard or anything. The family member who gave this computer to me is our family computer “guru,” the computer was running glitchy so he gave it to me, which means he can’t figure out how to fixit. I believe it has to do with the memory and the two memory sticks in it aren’t even the same brand he just stuck in what he had laying around. What the computer is doing is at times (not always) it just restarts itself and what I believe is happening is it’s running out of memory and doing a memory dump. I can tell you it runs out of memory easily. I have one program up right now (Google Chrome) and I’m using 413MB, which is over the 320MB of physical RAM. I’m sure you can see how that would be an issue.

The information I’ve been able to uncover suggests this board can accept 2GB ofPC3200 DDR 400MHz RAM, but is this true? It also suggests that I can upgrade my processor, but what is the best available AMD processor for this motherboard?

Also, if that is the correct memory type and I do max my memory out to 2GB; what would the best page file settings be to optimize performance?

Thanks,
-Ryan

I need the video driver and the network driver for my micro star MS-7061, win xp servicepack 2

Go to KM4M-L or KM4M-V. Whichever number code is on your motherboard is the one you should choose. It may not make a big difference in the end, but one of the boards is slightly different than the other, so some of the drivers will be different. I hope these links help you with resolving your problems. Please leave feedback and a vote rating. Thanks!

Where do I go to find the specs and capabilities of my motherboard: model: MS-7061? Tried the manufacturer (Micro Star International) and was forwarded to Tigerdirect.com. Tiger couldn't help and was...

1. Go to: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadindex
2. In the section labeled "OR Type 2.Manually Download", select "Mainboard" from the first drop-down menu.
3. Select "AMD Platform" from the second drop-down menu.
4. Select "Socket A" from the third drop-down menu.
5. Select "VIA" from the fourth drop-down menu.
6. Select "VIA ProSavageDDR KM266" from the fifth drop-down menu.
7. Select "KM3M-V" from the sixth drop-down menu.
This will bring you to a page having all the specs of your motherboard.

Note: MS-7061 is also known as KM3M-V

Micro star ms 7091

Do you know what the CPU socket is or chipset? If the CPU socket is a 478 then no dual core. If it a 775 then you might be able to use a Pentium D dual core w/ 800MHz FSB.
If you have a 945 chipset then the above will be true.

What is the part number for upgrading the memory for my MS-6368 Micro-ATX Motherboard? Upgrading to 1GB

You can go to the MSI website for your product (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=VIA_PLE_133_5a_Lan#) , then click the link for memory recommendation, either Crucial or Kingston.

An easier method is to go to the Crucial web site (www.crucial.com) and run their system scanner. It will tell you exactly what's currently in your system, and options for upgrade.
Note: You must be running IE to use their tool, and you must accept installation of their Active-X plug-in.
