Remove the top and you will be able to see the side of the drum- rotate it until you expose the screws to the loose baffle.(tighten them all while you are in there) Drum Baffle WPW10112972
Check the baffles in the dryer drum to see if any are loose. If they are not loose, spin the dryer by hand to see if noise is from inside the drum. Sometimes you will get coins caught in the baffles and all you have to do is loosen the screws, and rotate the drum a little so the coins will fall out. Then tighten the screws up and replace the cabinet.
You may also have a bad drum roller inside the machine.
If you could describe the sound to me, I will be able to help you a little more.
With the front off look up in the top left and right corners for some screws that hold the top of the dryer to the side panels. Depending on your model, there can be different styles. The old maytags used 3/8 in screws up inside the corners and the newer models had 5/16 screws right up front. Once you get the front of the top loose you will be able to lift it like the hood on a car to gain access to the drum. Rotate the drum by hand to put your loose fin at the top and tighten up your screws. Sometimes the screws will round out the holes on the drum too much and you may want to put a washer on the screw to secure it better. Good luck!
Why do you say that the drum is loose? Are you able to wobble it by hand? If so, that is evidence of a bad roller that the drum sits on.
If the drum doesn't turn as fast as it did, that is probably a loose belt, which would indicate that the belt tensioner is not working or belt has jumped the tensioner.
Remove the door and the plastic pieces on the opposite side. Take the front panel off. There will be one metal bracket on each side holding the top panel down. Remove those brackets and lift the top. Turn the drum where the loose baffle is up top and tighten loose screws or replace missing ones.
in the back opf your dryer the drum runs on 2 black rubber wheels when they are worn out it will giveyou that kind of noise replace them they cost about 8.00 each there is two of them you van see one from the bottom right side in the back of the drum if you remove the front lower panel thanks from gilles
Go into the back of the dryer. Remove access to back and you will see the drum. Chances are your motor that turns the drum is loose or the shaft or spindle that the dryer spins on is loose from its bracket. Tighten all that up and it should be fine.
