I have a Singer Stylist 513 & I cannot get the feed dogs raised.

I have a Singer Stylist 513 & I cannot get the feed dogs up in order for the fabric to move when I start sewing. Is there a switch or knob to change the feed dogs?

The model 513 Singer has two gears which operate the feeding mechanism. If one of these gears is broken, the machine will run except the feed dogs will not move. This is a very common problem with this model.

You sewing machine's feeddog is called a pressure dial it is located on the left side of your sewing machine at the top above & to the left of the take up lever, it's a little dial it will have numbers on it, & possible a d on it for darning, move the dial to a number like 3 to 5 & see if it will start stitching.

Debbi, I have tried to move the dial and it will still not move the material through to sew on its own, its like it is stuck in one spot, if we keep it set on 0, it will move the material along but it will skip. If we set it any higher, it will sew in one spot and not move the material along to sew????

Singer 513 runs smoothly but the feed mechanism will not raise up to. move the material along.

Make sure the pressure on the presser foot is activated. If it is set too light, it will not have enough pressure for the feed dogs to pull the fabric through the machine. Also, set the stitch length to at least #2 or higher. It could be possible the feed dogs have seized from old oil. If nothing helps, then you may need to take it for service as something is haywire with the feed dog mechanism itself.

I have a singer model 513. It suddenly stopped moving the fabric forward while sewing....the little "teeth" are not moving, is this a belt issue or something else?

The feed dogs are not pulling the fabric through the machine properly. There are gears and arms that make that all happen.
These parts can break. Look for a switch or setting that lowers the feed dogs for free motion sewing. Please let a professional trained technician make any repairs or adjustments.

Feeddog singer stylist 776 how would the feeddog gt lowered

Consult the owner's manual. There should be instructions for how to darn with your machine. It would require either the feature that lowers/raises the feed dogs or a cover plate that attaches over the feed dogs.

If your machine came with the cover plate accessory, and the feed dogs are not rising to feed the fabric, then I suspect the machine has not been cleaned & oiled in quite some time and perhaps the feed dogs have seized. When you run the machine (remove the needle and presser foot), watch if the feed dogs actually drop below the needle plate, move toward the front of the machine, then rise above the needle plate and move toward the back of the machine. This is a repetitive motion that actually pulls the fabric through the machine. If this is not happening with your machine, it needs service.

My fabric won't feed

Check that the feed dogs have not been dropped for darning or free motion quilting. If the feed dogs do not rise above the needleplate, they will not pull the fabric through the machine.

Feed dogs do wear (which is why one should always sew with fabric against the feed dogs--never on bare metal).

Something else that happens is that gunk builds up between the teeth of the feed dogs so that they no longer have the grip they need to move the fabric.

Another thing to check is the presser foot "pressure." A lot of sewing machines have a pressure adjustment that increases or decreases the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric and feed dogs. (Consult your owners manual.) he pressure can be adjusted according to the type of fabric being sewn.

Hi... I put new 2 gears which operate feed dogs.but my singer stylist 513 sewingmachine's feed dogs still jamed.not moves

The feed dogs must be centered. If the dogs rise too high the material may get stuck and cause problems. Another problem could be the foot is too high of pressure and must be lowered to allow the fabric to move. The last thing to look for is to check if the feed dogs are above the plate at the same time the needle is above the plate. All of these can cause trouble. It is also possible to have the plate have an area that causes a snag. Check the plate where the needle goes in the plate and check the edges of the hole. If they are rough then you can likely use a finger nail file to smoothen the edges. These are all very important to check.

I have a singer 543 the feed dogs won't move.

I suggest getting out your manual and looking up lower and raising the feed dogs. When the feed dogs are lowered they don't move. You could have lowered them without realising it.

I have a singer 3343c machine, when sewing the fabric foot does not move, the fabric while the machine is sewing.

the presser foot only holds the fabric against the feed dogs in the needle plate area

check the feed dogs to see if there in the up position

if not there should be a nob in the feed dog area to move them up & down

on some models when you remove the extension table the nob is at the back
