problem reading disks? it could be bad drive which i would imagine is dvd

Yes the disc reading problem on the PS3 is massive!

Let me run through what is going on and how you can fix it:

Cause:

It is the laser that needs readjusting in order to fix this problem. The good news is that the drive will still work as long as you readjust the laser in most cases - so you don't need to replace the drive!

Solution:

You can send it in for Repair and they will fix it for you - although this will cost about $150 in a repair bill and you can expect to wait for about 4 weeks to get your console back.

Quicker Solution:

It is possible to fix the PS3 games reading error from home because as mentioned above all you are doing is readjusting the laser.

sometimes dirt from outside sticks on the lens..and it stops readint
clean it it might work.

try removing the hardware and replacing it with a new one

Hi, it could be dirt UNDER the lens not on top.

does it read ps1 games?

it can also be a resister?

did you open it up?

does the disk spin?

does it read any cd or dvd?

the more info you give us the better?

Try cleaning the lense with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol, if that does not help then the drive needs to be replaced you can fin it cheap on ebay bet. $25-$30 and it just swaps out.

These units are notorious for this.. mine quit too for no reason at all,, press power button and it shuts itself off. there are no assemblies available from JVC , only parts..

If it wont read any disc then you should take it back - it should be covered by the warranty.
