Galaxy saturn has recieve but no modulaton

It sounds like your microphone has a problem. Test it on another radio and/or check the connections in the microphone connector. This is a very common problem on any radio. If you have the same problem on the other radio, then the problem is your microphone. Other wise, take the radio in for repair.

Microphone recommendation for KLM-2700

Just about any mic will do. I have used a Midland, Motorola, GE, Radio Shack and other microphones on these radio's. The mic element must be dynamic. Condenser microphones would require you to slightly modify the mic input circuit of the KLM to provide 5 to 10VDC through a 4K7 resistor to provide bias for the condenser element. It's easy to do if you have the skills to do it.

Everyone tells my my modulation is low

A lot would depend on the radio and the microphone being used.

Stock microphones will sound low, with a stock one take very close and right across the face of the mic.

Also stock radios are likely to sound muffled or stock.

Depending on the radio the modulation inside may be able to be turned up or if it has a mic gain on the front turn that up.

Some of the small Cobra and Uniden radios use a 1000 ohm microphone (the element impedance just like speakers).

Changing the mic for a older 500 ohm mic and wiring it for that radio will make a large difference in audio and how the radio sounds on the other end.

There are other options as well but I would need to know brand and model number.

How to i test to see if a mic element is still working

The easiest way is to plug it into a mixing desk or microphone input on a sound card. However, whichever you do you will need phantom power as this microphone requires it.

My sm58 beta distorts. Is the mic element hard to change out?

If you know how to use a soldering iron, the element is easy to switch out. However, it is probably less expensive to send the mic to Shure. That is the cartridge might cost more than the flat fee repair charge that Shure Service charges.
