Telephone connection How do I use the telephone without losing the internet connection? I have a Linksys VOIP with Teleblend phone service which works fine with the Verizon westell dsl modem. However, I can't connect Linksys WRT54G router so I can use my laptop in addition to the desktop. Verizon support instructed me to put the modem in bridge mode, but as soon as the tech did that I was disconnected from the phone and dsl. Please send any help. Thanks.

Unless you have dial up, you arent supposed to be losing any connection between the two. If you are, i would call them up and have them come out to fix it for free. That is completely rediculous.

Is it possible to make voip calls without the use of a computer or cell phone app? I would like to know if it possible to make voip calls without having to leave the computer on all day.

You could use a telephone adapter that could be provided by any voip service provider which you can connect to your modem or router. You can then connect a standard phone to this adapter and you have yourselves a proper residential phone service over the net without having to go through your pc. This allows you to have your own phone number to make and receive phone calls with pretty much all the features of a standard phone connection.

I just set up a new linksys wrt54g without a sim card. now my home phone wont work. but when i unplug the phone from the phone port my internet wont work? do i need a sim card for my home phone to work?

More information is needed about your setup.

Do you have:

cable modem <--> router <--> computer
and:
cable-telephone-box <---> telephone

or:

DSL-modem <--- VOIP adapter --> telephone
and VOIP adapter -> WAN port on WRT54G <--> computer

Please clarify.

Is it possible to use Voip without a direct Internet connection?? For example I use wireless Internet from my neighbors connection.

LOL!! I know with Vonage you need a hard line cat 5. With the usb things like magic jack, since that directly plugs into your computer, my assumption is it wouldn't matter whether you were wireless or not.

Hello,I have connected a linksys voip

Hello dandashi77,

I am using a Panasonic DECT 6.0 Series cordless phone. However, the VIATalk.com VOIP Services uses a LinkSys PAP2 adapter which can work with any type of phone. A Broadband connection is required to use the VIATalk.com VOIP service. Setup is very simple and the instructions areeasy to follow. Just a few simple things to do.

If you want to receive "incoming" telephone-calls:

ADSL modem <---> Linksys SPA <---> wrtu54g <---> wired computer

and Linksys SPA <--- telephone-line-1 --> telephone hand-set
and Linksys SPA <--- telephone-line-2 --> FAX machine

or Linksys SPA <-- telephone-line-1 --> mechanical telephone-splitter
with telephone-splitter --> hand-set
with telephone-splitter --> FAX
