Yes, reseting your laptop to original setting is possible.
It is called as formatting.If you format all the content in laptop will be lost.Please take back up and then format it.

Please get the boot up CD for your operating system(windows 2000 ,XP)

Put the CD in drive and restart the laptop.
It ask 'reboot from CD'.
Give enter it will start formatting the laptop.After formatting the laptop will be brought to original settings

You can format and install the operative system using your Toshiba's installation cd-rom.

Before install Windows will format and partition the hard disk.

when you say flash do you mean sd card or similar device if so card reader drivers not installed or incorrect drivers or mem card format not recognised...if theres nothing on it you need format it,If it is alredy formated by another device you need to reformat.
in windows it formats as storage disk in cameras they format as dcim
