Sub-Zero 590 The refrigerator portion of my SZ 590 will not get colder than 46 degrees. I have removed the back panel behind the food shelves and see that the top-left corner of the coils was all ice. The ice covered an area about 5" x 5". I turned the fridge off for a few hours to let all the ice melt away. After turning the fridge back on, the ice returned within an hour. Is this from excess humidity in the fridge? Might this go away on its own once I put the back panel on? The fan inside the fridge (on the top pointing down) comes on when the door is closed. Can someone take a stab at what the issue might be? The unit is 13 years old.

Ignore the fan operation... That is perfect.

You are likely experiencing a DEFROST failure
(most commonly a defrost timer failure)...
part number 3081180 item 69 on your exploded
top view (top right side as viewed from the front).

There are typically only three (3) elements to a DEFROST
circuit:
- Defrost Timer (as noted above)

- Heater element to WARM the EVAPORATOR

- DEFROST thermostat... inhibit excess heat
(closed circuit at freezing - Opens at room temperature)

Check your defrost pan...
there should be water there DAILY...

IF not: you are assured that your DEFROST fails.

Per YOUR DESCRIPTION...
You need to look for a SUDDEN REASON (huge air leak)
why FROST would form so quickly...
USUALLY a big pizza box... BUT ANYTHING blocking a
TIGHT DOOR SEAL will cause massive frosting.

It is taking moisture from the WARM ROOM AIR and blocking your evaporator...

Yes ... all INTERIOR panels must be in place for the refrigerator to function properly.

SOURCE: Sub-zero Fridge not cooling and ice forming

You do have a leak and it will be in the evaporator. So call a factory authorized company and have it replaced. The warranty of a Sub Zero sealed system is full parts and labor for years 1-5 and parts only in year 6-12. Sub Zero expects a lot of their service companies so it behooves you to call one. To find an authorized company go to http://www.subzero.com/locator/locator.aspx?type=0&zip= or call 800-222-7820

Why is my sub zero fridge model 590 warming up?

Hi fridges will warm up on the outside as they remove heat from the inside. excessive heat with not extreme cooling inside the fridge indicates a possible degridation of coolant fluid or a leak. as the motor tries to cool the fridge the thermostat inside stays on as the tempreture inside has not been reached. if you hear the motor/ pump continually running this will indicate a cooling problem.

What is causing my sub zero moled 590 , made in feb 93 to gradually warm up?

yeah vacuuming behind the fridge is a good start this will help the fridge preform better as when dust builds up on the condenser it will cause the discharge to be hotter than it should be making the cooling in the case not as efficient. i would start by removing the pannel in the fridge and seeing if any ice is on the evaporator

My sub-zero 642 will not get colder in the freezer than about 9 degrees and the fridge won't get colder than about 45 degrees. I turned off the breaker and vacuumed the coils, but still no change. ...

The Sub Zero 642 uses independent refrigeration meaning the freezer and refrigerator each has their own system. Best to have an "Authorized Factory Service Company" check it out.

Installing cams to sub zero 550

http://www.subzero.com/locator/locator.aspx?type=0&zip=Zip%20Code is the locator area parts distributors. Once you get the parts in, remove everything from the door, food, shelves.... Then with the door closed remove the upper hinge. If you have a left hinge unit you can bend the shroud out of the way and bend it back when you are done. The door can be quite heavy if you have wood panels on it so you may need help. Open the door 90 degrees and lift up and over the bottom hinge. Remove the cam from the door using a phillips head screw. Then replace the hinge cam that is on the hinge that is still attached to the body. Now you will need help, lift the door up and have some one set it into the lower hinge pin. Close the door and have some one hold it closed while you climb up and reinstall the hinge. You may have to adjust the door by sliding it forward and back left and right until you get your sight line just right.

Sub zero refrig - ice forming inside

The solution posted previously is TOTALLY WRONG. A Sub Zero ref doesn't have a heating element in the fresh food section. Only in the Frozen food section. It has 2 totally separate systems for each section. 2 Compressors and 2 evaporators. They share a condenser. If you are having ice build up in the refrigerator then the problem you are having is a refrigerant leak in the fresh food evaporator. You need to have a certified tech come out and replace the evaporator in your refrigerator section of your Sub Zero. Not sure what you are asking about the thermostat.

Sub zero refrigerator freezes food

Hello. You need a new cabinet thermistor and while you are at it replace the evaporator thermistor. (The evaporator is the cooling coil behind the back wall of your fresh food section) . These sense the temperature in your frig. Both of them are behind the back wall of your fresh food compartment. You will need a wire crimper and a heat gun or lighter to heat shrink the wire connectors that come with the new ones.
