I have an LG RH4810W HDD DVD recorder which has recently lost its sound output. Initially the TV sound went all squeeky while trying to watch the tv thru it. This went gradually over about 3 months - i.e sometimes full audio and then other times sqeeky. During this time we were able to tape and playback HDD recordings with audio OK. Now there is a high pitched screech when we playbak HDD. We can playback dics without any audio problems

Same problem here. Power down, slight bump on side of machine then power back up and good for a while. Now all we ever get is sqreech from tuner and AV. DVD & HDD playback ok.
Same problem as the first post. Looks like they were not made to last.
I havew excatly the same problem playing DVD ok. playing som ehdd recordings ok, but when recording from TV picture ok, but squeaky sound and the reciording comes out the same way. I am wondering if it is the tuner
I have the exact same problem too. Sound is ok playing from DVD or HDD but screechy from normal tv or set top box. Initially only did it now and then, but does it almost all the time now.
Took it to the local component repair shop and they replaced the whole sound card for $200, but the same problem came back a few days later. Its back there again being re-looked at. Will post if we find the solution...
i have the same problem with my one, ether screaching or no sound at all .ive had mine for 2 yrs started out fine then slowly started craping out.
have taken it in twice for repair, but they cant fix it ,keeps coming back as they cnt fault it.
i have had the top off mine and i know i can unplug one of the circuit boards from the main one and it comes right.but i dont understand why.
i used to unplug it ,try earthing cables and sometimes this would bring it right for a while as well.
the manual says that audio format of the digital output does not match the capilbilities of the recorder then you will get no sound or screaching?i dont really understand, ive run mine through the tv and through a dolby digital srround sound system as well, same problem, maybe its my tv ?.
i have one of these machines and works well apart from those niggles every one else has ,but mine has developed the scratchy sound and was cured by switching off power and switching back on from mains. " reset" but has now progressed to being permanent its not the tuner because av in from my vhs video via phono is affected and copied to hdd old good recordings are ok so it must be to do with audio digital processing durring record and monitor of course as this is why you can hear it optical link also affected i will check out the power supply with scope voltages are marked on sockets but i suspect its going to be a surface mount ic !
