Stopped making ice 3 months ago. Had a "repairman" come by and charge me 45 bucks for 2 minutes of "work" He unplugged the fridge for 30 seconds, and then plugged back in, and stated......"its your ice maker, needs to be replaced... 250.00 he said. I have found the parts for 63.00 but am having trouble buying as there is no water flowing to the tray, so I am thinkin its a supply problem Is there a switch in the ice maker that might be telling the water valve not to switch? Bill
The icemaker turns the valve on. the valve does not decide on its own when to squirt some water. sounds to me like the guy nailed it. however if the ice maker is going through the cycles and sending 120v to the valve but no water then the valve is suspect. also you could have a blockage somewhere. was the repairman REALLY only at your place for 2 minutes? 45 is a great price for a service call by the way. you must not have a car and be unaware that the price of fuel is over 3 dollars a gallon.
I get 55-65 for a service call and it is considered earned the minute the doorbell rings. not trying to be rude but if the guy came and touble shot your prob for 45 dollars you got your moneys worth
good on ya 150k a month I need some of that! what do you do?
you can get the Ice maker complete with wty for about the same from a wholesaler. might check that out over e-bay also you can get just the motor module (probably all you really need ) for even less. remove the ice maker and take the cap off the motor if you can pull the round gear right off then ohm out the heater on your mold assembly with your trusty fluke and make sure its good if so go for the motor module the little holes in the face of the module marked v, m, n, l, t, and h stand for valve motor neutral line thermostat and heater respectively. I hear you on takin care of folks I use the same philosophy in my life and profession.
take all this free advice for instance.

Whirlpool Model # ED2SHAXMB10. Stopped making ice today. purchased from Lowe's mid 2005. Have not determined problem but I have been reading MANY posts describing this problem. Confidence is not high.
Thx for the answer. all I needed was the 1st 5 words though. Just cause you CAN charge 45 or even 60 bucks for a service call, doesn't mean you SHOULD. My business has increased from 90k a month, to 150k in just 5 yrs, cuz I take care of each customer , one at a time. and if it takes me little or no effort to solve their problem I pass that on to them. Kinda like in the old days. If it was that simple, they should have told me to unplug it over the phone. I have never diagnosed a electrical problem without using a Fluke 88 multi-meter. unless I have seen the problem 50 times before. But then I can't sleep at night charging someone. for this "type" of diagnosis Good luck to you. Thx again for the answer. Now its on to EBAY where I found the complete unit for 62.00 (he wanted 250.00 for one installed. Everything I have read says I will spend 15 minutes.......thats fair too I quess......
Thx for the extra info. Thats what I call going above and beyond. When I say I have brought the business up 60k per month, don't get too excited. I did it for the company. I manage a Firestone Tire & Service Center. One of 2200 in our great country. So I only see a little of the profit. Guess it keeps me grounded that way. Wouldn't know what to do with that kinda money anyway. I do it more for the reputation than anything else. My dad told me ya can't buy one. Thx again for the idea. I will search for a motor module instead. Thx again bill
