My ps2 is makeing a werd sound when reading dice

It's not able read the disc - try cleaning the disc, try another disc, etc to narrow down the problem. If it won't play any discs either the lens is dirty or an actual hardware failure in the unit.

My PS2 always shows disc read error on all discs, what can I do

What you need to do is take you ps2 apart and clean it out and clean the laser lens that reads the cd's...you should be able to google ps2 disc read errors and get videos to help you through it.

Will not read blue discs no problem with clear(silver) ones tho.

1. Apparently, blue PS2 discs are lighter than silver ones, so they tend to move around more when the PS2 is reading them. To fix this, you can put duct tape on the top of the disc. This will make it heavier, so it won't move around too much and it should make reading the disc easier for your poor PS2. People have told me that this indeed works (but not always). Don't go overboard with the tape though. Attempt at your own risk. 2. If the problems occurs when the PS2 is horizontal, try putting it into its vertical position. Or try putting it horizontal if it is vertical. 3. Use a can of compressed air to clean dust out of the system. 4. Make sure your game discs are not the problem. Keep them as clean as possible. Even small scratches can cause problems. 5. Open up your PS2 and clean it out or try adjusting the lens. Very risky and voids your warranty. 6. Try using a DVD lens cleaner (for problems reading silver discs) or a CD lens cleaner (for blue disc problems). 7. Send your system to Sony for repairs. Due to a lawsuit, Sony may have to repair your PS2 for free even if there is no warranty. Contact Sony for details. That is all the advice I can give. If the len(s) cleaners or compressed air don't work, then you are probably just out of luck. There is no magic way to suddenly get your PS2 working again without professional repair.

The trick to getting the discs to play on any PS@ (old or new) when they are black or blue is to put a piece of tape lengthwise and width wise around the hole in the disc on the topside (picture-side) of the disc. What this does is add weight to the disc and thus allows the PS2 to read it more accurately. I had bought many older titles not too long ago and was disappointed when they didn't work. Then I spoke with a Japanese expert online and he suggested using scotch tape around the hole in the disc and it worked instantly. Don't be fooled into buying a new PS2, just a roll of scotch tape. You'll only need four one inch strips.

Disc read error

Disc Read Error generally means that the game disk cannot be read by your console.

Reasons for Disc Read Error
1. Disk surface scratched or smudged.
2. Disk surface dirty.
3. Lens surface dirty.

Here is what you can try doing.

1. Check the game disc for any scratches or smudges on the surface of the game disc, try to clean them off by using a non-abrasive cotton cloth.

2. If the PS2 console is lying down, please set the console to on its side or if it's on its side set it to flat position, restart the console and then try game again. Always ensure the PlayStation 2 is in a cool, well ventilated place.

3. Remove and reinsert the Memory card of your PS2, restart the console then try running the game again.

Other troubleshooting that you can try.

Change the Disc speed of the PS2 DVD and then try again.

Start the PS2 with no disc in a drive. Press the "triangle" button on the controller.
Use the up and down buttons on the controller to select "Playstation Driver” and press the "triangle" button on the controller.
Select Disc speed. If it is set to "Fast," select "Standard"; if it is set to "Standard", select "Fast" and press the "X" button on the controller. Press the "O" button on the controller. Insert the game disc and restart the PS2. Try running the game again.

Turn the Diagnosis On for PlayStation2 to auto detect the best settings.

From the Browser and System Configuration menu. Press the triangle button to select Version. Highlight the Console from the list and press the triangle button - this accesses the next menu option. The Diagnosis will be highlighted. Press the X button to access the options available. Highlight "ON" and press the X button to affect the change. Restart the console and try the game again.

If the above steps does do not solve the error then you would probably have to replace the disc.

Note: If you are using the Slim version of PS2 make sure that the console is properly ventilated and that it should always be in the standing position, as the slim version of PS2 no fan or any other cooling unit unlike the normal PS2.

How to fix

Try cleaning the system.
Get a can of dust remover and thoroughly blow out the system
MAKE SURE NOT TO SHAKE THE CAN OR TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN THIS WILL CAUSE FREEZING LIQUID TO BLOW OVER THE SYSTEM POSSIBLY CAUSING DAMAGE.
You will also need a laser lens cleaning kit, both of these items can be purchase @ Wal Mart, Kmart or Target for about $25.00

Disc wont read

Assuming you don't have a modchip installed.

1-800-345-7669 this is the sony customer service number. Call this number if your PS2 is getting Disc Read Errors. Sony will fix your PS2 for free even without a warranty. Remember to specifically mention the words "Disc Read Error" while speaking to the representative. He will give you the information for sending in your PS2, or he will give you the choice to email you the information.

The only part you will have to pay is the shipping (anywhere from 10-65 dollars depending on who you use). Also make sure you insure your PS2 on the way there. Why risk losing your PS2 just so you can save a few bucks?

You can call this whether you live in the United States or Canada. If you live outside of those two refer to your owners manual for your local Sony customer Service line.

The repair time varies but is always very short. Some have said that they received theres back within a week from when they shipped!

There are also other ways to fix your ps2 without sending to SONY, though i am very skeptical of these ideas. I mean why risk your PS2 when you can send it and get it replaced for free?

If you are tech savvy you can click one of the following links for info on fixing it yourself.

Disc reading error

Open the Case.
Clean the lens with Q-tip and Alcohol. This is only if you have the SCPH-30000 through 5000X models. If you have the Slim Ps2 do not use Alcohol on the lens. Use Glass cleaner instead.
