My 3100 printer insist to prform a print test every time I turn it on.

Image unit is the opc drum it is a consumable you should be able to order on where you buy your toners. Instructions on how to fit should be in manual or on the box when you receive it.

u have to do this remove & reinstall your printer driver remove from the control pannel >add remove program

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

I also found this on the internet which apparently works:

Please follow exactly and IN ORDER.

1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again

2. Let the printer print the test page.

3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.

4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.

5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.

6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!

(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

Print Cartridge(s) Problem
The following print cartridges has a problem:
Cartridge on Right
Cartridge on Left Refer to printer documentation.

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

It is not related to color issues but simply to unavailability of drivers in Vista/Window 7 for the HP Laserjet 3100/3150. that is the vista problem... test the printer in winxp sp2.. work ok..

but the 3100 series need install driver before conect the printer in the PC usb...

install the driver with the printer unplug usb.. and only conect when program say install printer at the usb..
