I would contact Best Buy directly and let them know your situation. Usually they will honor stuff like this within the first 30 days of purchase.

Which Windows Vista Edition are you?

If you are upgrading XP to Vista, make sure you backup and have the program "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor"

Download Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=42B5AC83-C24F-4863-A389-3FFC194924F8&displaylang=en

Be Sure to Backup with a removable media such as CD's, Floppy Disks or USB Flash Drives, External Hard Drivers.

Windows Vista Editions:

Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Ultimate
Windows Vista Starter
Windows Vista Enterprise

These also include 64-bit.

Lastly, if you have XP and if it's Vista Capable, you don't need to use the upgrade advisor, you are allowed to use any, but you must download the drivers after upgrade.

I need a serial number from a acer notebook running windows vista premium/home premium. Mine is a 751h and runs basic, so they won't ship me the free upgrade. However, there are videos all over the...

The free upgrade is sent out by the laptops manf. directly to you as long as you bought the laptop in the past 4 months. It is regardless of the current version of Windows Vista that you are running. According to an article found here

"Acer says "shipments will begin in increments. All orders will be handled on a first-in, first-out basis." So if you bought a computer last week, you could be at the end of a long line."

Best you can do at the moment is just wait, your not going to be able to do much till Acer ships out that upgrade. Even if you did install Windows Vista Premium, you would be stuck till you got the Windows 7 from the manf.

Error states Spy Sweeper is not compatible with 64-bit operating systems.

This from the Webroot Web site on supported operating systems:

Windows Vista® (32-bit versions of Home Basic, Premium, Business, or Ultimate), Vista SP1 (32- and 64 bit versions of (Home Basic, Premium, Business, or Ultimate).

So, assuming you have bought the latest Spysweeper (and assuming you have Vista 64 bit) , then you need to upgrade your Vista to SP1.

Need to upgrade Vaio FW235J from Vista to Vista Ultimate

Vista drivers are Vista drivers. As long as you are not doing anything regarding the 32-bit/64-bit line, everything should work fine. The 32-bit Vista driver model doesn't change with the specific flavor of Vista. The same thing with the 64-bit version. So if the drivers work in the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium, they will also work unchanged in the 32-bit version of Vista Ultimate. And if you are doing an in-place upgrade, you don't need to even try to reinstall the drivers anyway.

HP Pavilion dv6000 OS(s)

The product key on the label on the bottom of the laptop will only work for the version of Windows that was installed on that laptop.
You can purchase an upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate and to use in conjunction with the existing Vista Home Premium.

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....
