if you can see if the screen lights from behind when the picture apears for a second then the problem is probably the invertor or worse the screen

If the picture shows a picture briefly upon power up then goes off after a few seconds, you have a back light fault. It could have a problem in the 24vdc circuit, failing back light inverter board, or a blown CCFL lamp.

i have the same problem. i just replace the power board because of the "green blinking" light. now, light stays green, picture comes on for a few seconds, then blank....

Sony incorporates a video blanking circuit that blanks the picture out when the picture tube begins to get weak. sorry, but short of replacing the tube, there's no lasting solution to this problem.
