Re: A silver slim ps2 is unable to play certain games
Okay, are you using the original PS2? If you are then it more then likely is the age of the console. The original PS2 console actually can't play some of the games that were made after the PS2 slim was released. If your using the slim than the only thing i can advise is to try using a laser lens cleaner disc and see if that helps :)

God of War II being one of the few Dual-Layer discs on the PS2, it is possible that your problem originates from your PS2 lens being unable to read it correctly. The PS2 Slim is supposed to be able to read Dual-Layer, thus you should try cleaning your lens, it may be dirty, leading to this kind of error while still able to read Single-Layer discs.
Games like God of War 2, Grand Turismo 4 etc take time to load and some times these games are not loaded by consoles with weak lenses or dirty lens. You should consider cleaning your lens.Cleaning lens might solve your problem plus here is a trick for you to play such heavy games(Although its about playing DVDs on PS2 but you can play your game by following this tip the same way.) Your ps2 needs to be fixed, gow 1 and 2 are dual layered discs and alot of ps2 originals and slims have trouble playing it, trying calling sony and they can usually fix it for about $45, the laser in your ps2 is worn.
Hope this helps :)
the problem with god of war 2 is the ps2 lasers are not capable of reading the dual layer disks. either wait and get a ps3, change the laser - i just bought on for 3 quid on e bay brand new. the lasers are not designed to be played the amount they are played. the laser is designed to play 20 hours a week but as sony found out he avg gamer will clock up up tp 60 hours a week so the lasers are only lasting 1/3rd of the time they should. plus if they put a good laser in the machine u would one buy 1 ps2 and then 1 ps3. i have burned out 3 ps2's so far lol. just forget the game or wait till its put on platinum as these are single layerd disk
