I think that the laser have a little bit more life the two months . How one can aligne properly. what is so funny is that there is a dvd that was recorded on this dvd recorder and after few trials it will read it. Again it would not read any other dvd regardless the make. I tried to contact LG customer care but They should call themselves customer don't care as none of them even had the courtesy to reply to my complaint. This product was made in Indonesia. on July 2007. I even tried to contact them but they have no ears to hear from me. I am giving up till I will go to Azerbaijan and shoved it to the man who sod it to me

Optical unit has become dirty or out of alignment. It may be even that the laser has expired...accordianman

I'm sorry for your troubles, but please bear in mind that not all man-made products have the life expectancy that we all deisre. My diagnosis still stands, and I hope that your experience turns out for the best...accordianman

I have indeed, performed laser alignments, but only after some training in that field. A single-trace 'scope is needed, with at least a 10 MHhz horizontal specification. These DVD machines have what is called a "grating lens" and must separate the primary beam into three coherent beams; one for reading the actual tracks, and the other two used for tracking error offset to tell the machine which way to move the beams and how far. There are numerous products on the market, some extremely inexpensive, that can detect whether a laser is even putting out a beam to begin with, or, you can use an ordinary video camera to "see" the beam by looking at the viewfinder of the camera. The rest of the alignment process varies slightly according to the MFGR, and should be performed as such...accordianman

RCA 8295n dvd-vcr combo starts recording from VHS tape to disk and then stops.

Is the VHS tape a store bought movie or show?

MacroVision and other copy protection systems are put into store bought tapes and discs of movies and shows, and are read by your recording equipment. Once it reads this, it stops recording.

Does the screen turn red before it stops? This is one of the indications that MacroVision is stopping you.

Recorded dvd's won't play in another dvr

The problem is not the dvds themselfs it is the other play that you are trying to play them in (some players do not play DVD- and DVD+ or any other of self recorded disks) Look on the players box to see all what types of disks it can play!

Samsung DVD-4600 DVD/VCR Player

My Smasung DVD/VCR Combo stopped reading DVDs because of a dirty read head. It started by only playing disks sometimes, and progressed to never playing disks. I assumed it was a dirty laser lens so I bought a lens cleaner set. Unfortunately my player wouldn't play the cleaner disk.

So I took it apart and cleaned the laser lens manually with some isopropyl alcohol (the clenser that came with my cleaning disk), and a lens cloth (that came with my glasses). Just open the case (starting with the screws in the back) and remove the snap in cross panel that obscures the lens of the DVD portion. Put a drop of cleanser on the lens and gently wipe it with the cloth.

Oh and by the way, I take no responsibility if you break your own player while following my instructions. My own DVD player was far out of warranty at the time I cracked it open.

Reads all but DVD-Help PLEASE

When you say it won?t read are you trying to play commercial DVD movies or read DVD data disks? If you're trying to play movies then you need a couple of things the first being some type of player program. Real player works as does Windows media player but usually DVD drives come with a striped down version of PowerDVD or WinDVD. If you in fact have a player installed and when a DVD is inserted in your drive it doesn't play it may not be configured to automatically play DVDs. Try opening your player program and trying to manually play your DVD. Let us know if you have any success or if you need more assisted. If you do let us know what player program and operating system you have and any error messages that may appear.
