The fridge does not cool but the bottom freezer does, It is an Amana BX2ITW. I have not tried anything. The freezer froze a tray of ice but the fridge is not cooling at all.

There is something plugging the drain line in the freezer which carries water from the defrost cycle to your evap drain tray in the bottom of your fridge. The water has built up and froze plugging the flow of air from freezer to fridge.... find the line and unplug it and let fridge sit and thaw overnight and then some more.

Hi,Your husband did good job, after cleaning and vacuuming, did freezer (bottom) have excessive ice?, if there's excessive ice in bottom, after cleaning, you have a defrost problem, but if there're no ice in freezer after cleaning, you got freon (gas leak) , there's a condensate loop, that passes through ref. body, from compressor that naturally develop, freon leak after few years, by rusting, normally it can be by- pass. vacuum and refill with freon, if there's no freezing, but compressor running, you'll need a mechanic, you got a freon leak. good luck.

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. Ice build-up inside refrigerator and cycling switch not functioning. Requires technician to take apart inside of refrigerator, clear ice and replace switch. Took my repair man about half hour to fix.

Is your freezer so full that it is packed to the top especially in the rear?
Refrigerators and freezers share the air from the compressor and travel through vents in the rear of the freezer and fridge.
Sometimes it can effect the cooling in the fridge if the freezer articles block the vents!


The water overfilling in the ice maker is an ice maker problem only.
When we install an ice maker there is a short white plastic tube that we push through the rear
hole of the fridge which supply's the water to the maker, the outside water line attaches to this.
That tube we push through the fridge must go in till it stops. And empties in to a little sistran at the rear of the ice maker. Make sure it did not sip out or backwards a little when you may have moved
rolled the fridge out to clean under it!


Also you need periodically to remove the front grill down in front of the fridge and gently run a refrigerator brush under the coils to clean out the dust that may block air flow over the coils.(the coils are metal black tubes that run back and forth along the bottom of your fridge.
The vacuum will not reach in to that tight space. That's why they make a special brush for this chore.

moisture in the freezer is condensed at the back in a tray that has a drain with a tube that drains to a tray at the bottom of the unit. In our case the drain was clogged and water froze in it. We removed the back panel and pulled out the tube from the drain spout. We then used a hair dryer to defrost the ice clog and a wire to route out the drain and the tube. This worked and we replaced the tube and sealed it with tape. It now drains properly into the tray.
