I'm trying to add another computer to my wireless network, and it's asking for my password when I try to log onto the Internet. My current system has no password and says Open. The new computer won't accept Open and says the password doesn't match.

Connect to it directly using a LAN cat 5 cable, not wireless.
Log in as admin to the router, and change the wireless password to something new.
Disconnect the cable then try connecting from each laptop by wireless, when it prompts for password enter the new password.
Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password ispassword or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.
If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.
the password for a wireless network is set by the owner of the network. it is the same password you would use when logging onto that network from a computer. if you do not have the password ask the owner of the network what the password is. if you are the owner of the wireless network and you have forgotten your password, that is another thing entirely and you should ask how to recover your wifi password.
You can secure your wireless network wit WEP or WAP code. For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 For belkin router http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Click
on wireless settings then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is
your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router. Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code. Thanks for using FixYa.
When you opened the box and switched the mac on for the first time, After you have had the dinky introduction video and the request for your language of choice, one of the first things it would have done is scanned for wireless networks and shown you all that it could see. It would then ask you to chose which one to use and (if necessary) type in its password.
That, normally, is all you do. From then on the mac logs in to the network automatically.
It would probably be a good idea if you could explain what happens or how you are trying to add the mac to the network, because normally it's a couple of mouse clicks and typing a password.
Go to Start>control panel> Network and internet> network connections > right click on wireless network > select 'view available wireless networks' and select your home network and click connect. If it asks for a password i guess u have it or if u dont have then go to Internet Explorerand and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, it will ask for a username and a password, type admin as username and the same for password. it will take you to the lynksys page....then select wireless and click wireless security, it will show you the wireless password.......
If u have windows vista :
Click Start > go to 'connect to' > select the wireless network you want to connect to and the rest is the same as windows xp....
All you need to do is log into the router usually with the pc that is attached to the router (wired) by typing into the run command box http://192.168.1.1 Depending on the brand of router you'll either put in admin and no password or admin for the password or admin and password for password. Once in the router go to the wireless security tab and you can see the network key. Hope this helps
You are not trying to log onto another network. Your router should connect you to your ISP and the internet, through the modem you are using. If you have a laptop enabled with wireless internet card and you are trying to log onto the network supported by your new router, you can click on the network icon on you computer and get it to scan for available networks. Once you see the network you just created with your new router, you enter the SSID, password and IP address you used in setting up the router.
Hope this helps
