Wifi and clock synchronization problem

I can't connect to my wireless router - this is a netgear 614 router, even with all the encryption and security disabled. I have successfully connected to a public network but when I do the automatic time synchronization fails and I cannot access the online content portal as a result.

Any ideas for fixing my problem appreciated.

Have added MAC address (Archos 705 wifi 80gb) to router but the message

'Content Portal clock service could not be accessed. Please try at another time or from another network'

still comes on screen every time I try to access it. Any solutions. Have most up to date firmware.

You can try adding the mac address of your archos Menu/system/settings. onto the router. It may be a built in firewall preventing you from connecting. good luck

How to use router without using wifi in belkin n150

This model Belkin wireless router has 4 LAN ports so you can connect a LAN cable from this wireless router to your computer.
I suggest you disable the wireless in the router so no one can access your network and Internet. If you cannot disable the wireless then you can setup WPA2 encryption to secure your wireless network or just remove the aerial off the wireless router.

Network Key (WEP, WPA, WPA2 Encryption key)To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Router wifi and computer dont connect

Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. Toconnect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure thewireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ieSSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops cancommunicate with your wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

How to secure my netgear route5

There are a few things you can do to stop unwanted access to your wireless network, and while you'll get different opinions from different people on the pros/cons of them (mac filtering, disabling the SSID broadcast/etc) the MAIN thing you need to do is to enable encryption

While there are different types of encryption, for modern home installation WPA2 should be implemented (some older 802.11b devices will not work with this and will have to revert to WEP, this should not be used as it is no more secure then a wide open network in most cases)

WPA2 (WPA-PSK AES)
  • connect to your router with a DHCP wired connection
  • open your web browser to the routers address (default for this model is 192.168.1.1)
  • log into your routers web interface
  • username: admin password: password
  • goto Wireless>Wireless Security
  • Select WPA AES encryption
  • Choose an secure passphrase (good practice is to combine lowercase/uppercase/numerals/symbols)
  • keep all other settings at default

save settings, reboot router, and you're set, make sure on your laptops you choose the same encryption method for your network along with the excact passphrase you choose.

You may also want to change your default login password to the router while you're in there.

The full manual can be found here:

I hope this helps,

Where do I find the security key for netgear wireless g router WGR614v9-serial number *1W91867RO33ES* as I wish to install a usb wireless adapter on my wife's computer

The encryption key is a security key. The encryption key is configured in the Netgear's wireless setting. To get these settings ie. the SSID and the WPA or WPA2, open a browser and type the Netgear's configuration URL - http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
Then go to the wireless settings to get this information.
This SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption key is then used to configure the USB wireless adapter so it can connect to the Netgear.

Wireless security via MAC address

I would enable WPA encryption and keep the MAC security on. Even though no other computers can connect due to the MAC security, without the encryption your network still looks wide open and it will tempt people to connect. At least if they see there is some sort of encryption on they will not even bother with trying to connect to it.
