Hi, Have you checked the hose for blockages and also the only main problem with these are you know when you take the top off then their is that big round filter that sits on the lip that holds the two parts together, Check this is in the correct way and that the seal is not damged check also the clips holding the top and bottom together are secure.
But blow down hose make sure not blocked then check the filter this might even need banging to remove dust in case its built up to much and not allowing the air to get through it ok
Let me know how you get on ok

When i switch my henry hoover on it works fine for exactly 50 seconds then switches of for approx same time then comes alive again for 50 secs and so on...driving me nuts.

sounds like some sort of blockage, If there is a blockage in the hose, or if the filters are dirty, the thermal overload switch will cut in saving the motor from overheating, Clean filters and check for blockage in hose. Hope this helps.

My hoover smells of ammonia

Hello,
I too have a problem with a bad smell coming from my henry hound hoover, but thats probely because i haven't used a hoover bag. I took the cloth filter out, banged all the dust off, then sprayed it with 'RugDoctor' pet stain remover for carpets and upholstery. It still smells a bit, but not half as bad as befor. I have now ordered a reusable, zipable, washable cloth hoover bag especially made for Henry's. It cost £8.80 from ebay with free postage. Hope this helps Nikki.

Rewiring a Henry Hoover

Ignoring for the moment the fascinating question of why you would actually want to do this...  I'm sorry to tell you it won't work. Swapping the wires over will make no difference.
