Re: premalite vac brush stopped turning
Not familiar with thi sbrand, but a reset is for when the brushes get jammed pr stalled, it will trip the reset. Make sure that the brsuh roll turns easily, also for a broken belt and/or bad brush roll. Some resets are for when the vac motor over heats, it will trip saving the motor. Usually this is for a jammed brush roll or a clog.

Try turning brush by hand and if it's stuck then it needs to be worked on. Could be bad bearings or jammed with dirt .Even carpet strings will stop it. If it turns by hand your belt could be stretched.
I don't believe that there's any penalty for using the proper amount of words to give us a fair idea of what's going on or not, with your machine." Power mate brush motor not coming on" only gives us a bare minimum of info. Does the vac motor run alone, does it still run when you slide the selector to vac & P.M. or does it quit, have you tried pushing the little red reset button down?
I just had the same problem. I would turn on the vac, and it worked fine. When I turned on the brush it would work for a few seconds then shut off. Through troubleshooting I found out it had nothing to do with a bad power connection. By chance I took off the side HEPA filter to see how it looked. I realized that I have never changed it and that it was filthy. I removed it and turned on the vac, then the brush. It took a few tried, but the brush motor got back to full strength. I reassembled everything and it works fine now. It seems that the clogged filter was causing the brush motor to shut off. I'm running my vac w/o the HEPA filter while i wait for a new one to ship. Hope its the same prob for you!
This is the brushes in the motor burning out by time you get this message the cleaner will have stopped. Replace motor or replace machine. Motor can be replaced because that was my last job mending vacuum cleaners. I think Godfreys may repair them or any small electrical store or you can do it yourself.
this sounds like your vacs dust passage from the rotary brush to bag is blocked ? you can diy this if you turn vac over to show the brush and covering cover you will see cover is held by some screw/bolts ? remove these and cover then the brush assy is slotted in place either side on bush/bearings and the drive belt is around the brush memorise how it fits! then gently/carefully lift brush out the belt will create spring action once brush removed you will see where the dust travels thro an arpeture on the belt side of vac this usually is where blockage is clear it out and any other within the area of brush then reassemble and check vac
Jim, To put tension on the brush, tilt machine forward when upright, move carpet selector knob to carpet. then turn vac on. Brush will only spin when vac is tilted back to operate. brush stops when upright and on to use hand tools so the er is no danger to carpet or persons with moving roller.
with cleaner plugged in and turned on, push the little reset button on the side of the lower base of vac. Remember that the brush will not turn in the upright position. release your handle and you should be in business. hope this helps. please let us know. thanks renevacdoc
If you remove the motor, you will see that the wires that go from the switch to the brushes. On one side there is one wire connected directly to the brush. On the other side the wire goes to a plastic plug with a second wire going to the brush. This is probably where the problem is. This is a fusible link and it has most likely melted creating an open in the circuit. I put a piece of solder where the link was and the motor ran BUT the brushed arced like a sparkler. Upon further examination the brushes were crumbling apart. I have been unable to find replacement brushes. This machine has a five year warranty. I called Shop Vac Customer Service 1-888-822-4644 and they sent me a new motor. I had a Shop Vac QL50EIC which had exactly the same problem but the warranty was expired so that I had to buy another motor for about $50.
