How to Activate Norton AntivirusStep 1:
Uninstall any previous versions of Norton AntiVirus before installing and activating a new version. To do so, click the Windows "Start" button and then "Control Panel."
Step 2:
Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) to open the "Programs" window. Windows Vista users should instead double-click "Programs and Features."
Step 3:
Find the Norton version you have installed in the list of programs and click "Remove/Uninstall" in Windows XP or "Uninstall" in Windows Vista. Click "Restart Windows Now (Recommended)" when the program removal is complete.
Step 4:
Insert the Norton AntiVirus installation CD into the CD-ROM drive, or, if you downloaded the program from the Internet, double-click the installation file. Click "Install Norton AntiVirus" when the installation wizard opens. Click "Install Options" and click "Browse" if you want select a different location than the default for the program.
Step 5:
Click "User License Agreement." Read it and click "Close" when you are done. Click "Agree and install" to begin the installation. When the installation is complete, Norton AntiVirus will launch automatically.
Step 6:
Click "Activate Now" on the bottom-right corner on the Norton AntiVirus program window. Type in the product key and click "Next." The product key is usually on the installation disc packaging. If you purchased and downloaded the program from the Internet, Symantec will send you an email with your product key.
Step 7:
Type in your email address and click "Next." Type your password if you have a Norton account. Complete "Create a Norton Account" if you do not have an account and click "Next."
Step 8:
Review the subscription details and click "Done" to complete the activation.
