What is your connection to the dlink router look like, plz define. If you think your connection settings are fine then try resetting (do this if you do not care about the settings on the router) the router to default settings by depressing the small hole at the back of router for few seconds and it will refresh the router to default settings. Try connecting now to an ethernet cable and it should work if not then you have to go into router settings and match the ISP provided settings for modem to work in the router configuration. For going into the router make sure you have the manual for it:

select the model and download the manual as well as any firmware.
