This is usually from the clothes being pinched. Either in the front or rear. The front uses a glide type system on GE style dryers and felt and rollers on most others. Here is a link. Check the type of dryer you have or send me the model # and I will direct you, then follow the links in the troubleshooting to the video that fits your dryer. If you enter your model # you can also get diagrams and illustrations that will also show you what type of dryer. The repairs are easy to do and inexpensive. http://appliancehelponline.com/edryerburnmarks.html
Usually, if you are getting brown streaks or marks on clothing, one or both of the drum seals are going bad. Clothing will drag between the bulkhead and the drum, leaving brown marks. If you want to do the repair yourself, I can provide instructions, otherwise call for service.
Excessive lint on or near the heater coils will send smoldering lint onto the clothes. Use a flash light and go inside the drum to see the heating coils or lifting the top up who should be able to see the lint build-up on the coils. These need to be cleaned.
could be three things. 1st) 240v should enter the unit. if 120v is missing then the unit will run but will not heat (on an electric dryer).
2nd) the thermal cut-off is not showing continuity and therefore not allowing voltage to travel to the element. 3rd) could be the element itself not showing continuity.
If it's a gas dryer, it's most likely a thermal fuse or the ignitor. please let me know if i can be of better help. good luck :)
The 417 dryers have two seals on the front panel, the top seal has drum glides which wear down over time. Because the drum rests on those glides, when it wears down it leaves a gap between the drum and the seal, clothes will drag in that gap and come out with rust and/or seal adhesive stains. Try replacing the top and lower seals, this works most of the time...sometimes though, if left unattended long enough, the lack of support from the front glides causes too much strain on the rear drum bearing, and even after replacing the seals clothes may still catch, although the brown spotting will stop for awhile. You can feel the gap if you run your hand along the inside of the drum at the seal point.
