2 of my hampton bay ceiling fans stopped turning-one that was installed 6 years ago and one that was installed 2 months ago. I can hear the motor vibrating when it is turned on. Do I need to replace the fans?

Mcdevito75 here, On the fan you hear, carefully turn the blades by hand just a little and see if they start up on there own. These motors are sealed units and maybe the oil is a little thick from non-use. If the baldes don:t start up, Then I would replace the fans.

We installed a Hampton Bay ceiling fan about five years ago. It has been running trouble free until about 6 months ago. The problem is that the fan blades turn at what seems to be half the speed they...

More than likely Barry, based on what you described, the wall switch is failing. This is not that uncommon, as it's basically a rheostat. Replacing the switch should solve the problem.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Fan stopped Turning - Removed fan to check all the connections. All the connections were good. When you turn the fan on, you can hear a humming sound. If you take off the blades you can spin the motor and it will work, but will not turn on it's own.

I called Home Depot customer service. I had my receipt, so they gave me store credit for the full purchase. Since I have two fans, they wanted to know if I wanted to replace both fans. I told them one was still working fine, so I only replaced one. My problem was the transformer. You could see where it had overheated and melted.

Fan won't reverse though it has before

It could be 1 of 3 things. 1) Receiver unit, 2) Sender (Remote), 3) Motor. For my brand new ceiling fan it turned out it was the motor.

I Have a hampton bay ceiling fan mod. 523 342,

if you have connected power directly to the fan motor and it doesn't turn...replace the fan.  However, also check the switches on the fan as you may have bumped them.

Bulbs burning out in Hampton Bay ceiling fan

I would suggest getting an electrician to check the current running through the wiring. I had installed a similar fan in my grandmother's house a couple of years ago and had the same problem. After a couple of months of constantly changing bulbs, I brought in an electrician to check the current and found that there was a short in the wire which kept causing just enough of a current surge to blow the bulbs.

It could be the capaciter, found in the light fixture area.

Ceiling fan with a short in the motor

If there is any guarantee given for them try to exchange the same. If you feel not to return the fan, then go to an expert and get repaired
