Graphics question I am having problems on my monitor. It often has intermittent lines of black dots across the screen. I have disabled the graphics card as it was giving me the following problems... The computer would reboot itself, or a message would appear 'No Signal', or it would go into sleep mode.Occasionally I would get the message, 'The system recovered from a serious error' upon a reboot. I have reformatted the HD and done a clean reinstall of XP Professional but the problem remains. With the graphics card disabled the problems above have disappeared except for the lines of dots over parts of the screen. Is this a graphics card problem or something more serious? Running Pentium IV 1.6GHz 1 GB SDRAM Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX400 32MB graphics card Any advice appreciated. Thanks Andy MY problem of grahics cards is the drivers is low update

The problem comes from your graphic card,as far as i know that's a AGP card so next thing u could do is open your computer case take the graphic card out from the AGP slot and clean the slot and pins from graphic card with some contact spray or alcohol wait until spray or alcohol vanish and put the graphic card back power on and see the results

I had a acer lcd monitor al1716 that has a vertical lines in a block running across the screen with horizontal lines inside

If you have tried a different monitor and still get the vertical lines the problem lies either with your cable or graphics card or motherboard (if you don't have a graphics card).
If you are running a graphics card take it out and put it back in and check if it still shows you the lines, if so remove it and try using the on board graphics from the motherboard. 'f the problem disappears its the graphics card if not its the motherboard.

I have (suddenly) a single dotted black line about a quarter wasy down my screen on laptop. Can I get rid of it?

Hello,

First, you need to verify if the dot is cause by faulty graphics chip/card or LCD/LED. To do this use external monitor, if you cant see dot on your external monitor then you have faulty LCD/LED if you see dot like in your laptop the you have graphics chip/card problem.

Lines across computer screen but can still see some

Take your friend/family monitor and plug it in your machine. If the problem still the you graphic card is bad. If not then check monitor cable or update your graphic card driver.

PB Minos GP2W screen has coloured lines fades white then black

Most likely it's graphic card problem, but also may be monitor itself. First, check the signal by connecting to TV (if yours has a PC input), then replace card if that shows the same.

I do get withe or green lines across the screen when playing big movie files and some this when there is a load on the screen the computers freezes and the screen is black when it starts up number of...

It could have something to do with the graphics card but the lines that show up have me thinking that it has to do with the monitor. The only way to know for sure is to hook up the monitor to another MAC and if you still get lines then you'll know its the monitor. If your still unsure, get the Radeon 1900 graphic cards upgrade kit replaced, if you still get the lines then you'll know its the monitor, if the lines go away then you know its the video card.

Getting black horizontal lines across the screen. It started off as an intermittent problem, now occurring more often. I changed the video card and the power supply tests fine and I changed the refresh...

I would test the cable, use it on a different monitor or try a different cable. That is the only other thing to check, otherwise it definitely is the monitor.

The screen has green dotted lines

Looks like a graphics problem, try rebooting in safe mode and reinstall your graphics driver that came with your computer or card.
I have also seen this problem on a laptop with a faulty memory module.

Coloured And Dotted Lines Across My Screen

Firstly, start your pc in safe mode (f8) on boot up. This will start your pc in vga mode, and hopefully the lines are still there, which will indicate a faulty graphics card, if they aren't it may be a problem driver. If no lines, go to Add/remove programmes and uninstal your graphics driver. Re boot pc then when it finds your card make sure you point Windows to the folder in which you have saved the driver files. The driver should then install, see if any change. You may have to try some older drivers, as Nvidia can be awkward at times. I have had varying problems with Nvidia and replaced with ATI cards with no problems.
