My printer will no print and will not take paper either front or rear. The orange light flashes and the error message says paper empty or paper jammed. There is no paper jam and the paper is loaded.

This is a sample guide;

41093dd.jpgWell I fixed it!!! Here's what I did. You see this picture of the cover opened? Where the arrow's pointing is the home position of the printer head. Under there I found a scrap piece of paper! Here's exactly what I did. When I got home I decided to plug it in to see if it would work, but it made the same noise and showed the same error message as before. I opened the cover as shown above. This resets it, and it says "close cover". I closed it, and AS it started to go through its routine I OPENED IT again, and I could see the printer head moving back and forth. At this point I used a flashlight to see where the home position of the Head was, and that's where I found the scrap of paper!
I unplugged it for safety and was able to remove the scrap with my fingers.
By your descriptions, referring to the other users, you just might have the same problem.

Hope this may help;

My printer keeps showing the message, " paper jam

Hello Tessty,

The Paper Jam message may appear on the display if the Brother machine is not feeding paper correctly, paper scraps stucked or the paper is not loaded properly in the paper tray, the jam clear cover located in the back of the machine, is not installed properly or the PE Actuator is missing or damaged.

Please visit the link provided below to resolve the issue step by step :

I'm trying to print but it keeps coming up with an error message paper jam, remove jam paper and press start. There's no paper jam and it won't print. I have try talking out the paper from the feeding tray...

Please remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer driver software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
If the printer shows a jamming error then check the input of the paper feed as there can be some foreign objects that is obstructing the detector opto-coupler or the detect switch. clean and check or the sensor is faulty.

Paper jam

Use mirror and flashlight to look down paper feeder from the rear, gently pull paper toward the rear. An index card can be fed from the front to the rear to push paper out by turning the gears you see on the left side inside the front cover. Be careful not to force anything.

Error message keeps appearing "paper jam in tray 2" although there is definitely no paper jam.

If you did not get ALL the jammed sheet out, there is still a small piece of paper in there somewhere, probably covering a sensor or micro switch. Get a torch and look carefully. If you don't find anything you may need to disassemble the printer to find it.

Paper jam. we removed the major portion of it. bit of paper is inside. we can't find out that. display shows 13.20.00. we removed front and back except toner catridge. what we have to do.

Try this linke below.

Or i cut and paste text, but you should view pictures. If you cannot get to it from link. Try typing "Paper jams alternating between front and back door" It should be first link from HP about a 3550.

HP Color LaserJet 3500, 3550, and 3700 Series Printers - Paper Jams Alternating Between Front and Back Door Issue Description Customers may see paper jams error messages with no paper seen in the paper path. The message will alternate between check the front door and the back door. Workaround The release lever engagement tabs on the rear door can be bumped into the in-correct position. The purpose for this tab is to re-engage the fuser release levers as the rear door is closed. When one or both of these are left in the in-correct position the printer goes into a cycle of alternating between a "Jam in the Front Door" message and "Jam in the Rear Door" message. There is no paper present in the paper path when this happens. When a customer gets the "Jam in the Front Door" message and opens the front door, no paper is found. After the customer closes the front door, they get the "Jam in the Rear Door" message. When they open the rear door, find not paper (even pull out the fuser), and close the rear door, they get the "Jam in the Front Door" message. This cycle will continue

Placing both engagement tabs in the "Correct" position solves the problem and allows the print job to continue.for as long as the customer is willing to keep checking.
