Type of rinse agent needed for dishwasher

I have an old White Westinghouse Dishwasher and there is a little round compartment with a piece that twists out in the dishwasher door. It looks like the place you put the rinse agent, but I have poured 3/4 of a bottle in there and the cup never fills up. Should I be using a tablet instead of a liquid form of rinse aid?

Thanks,

victoria

The rinse aid container in the door is quite large. Maybe you just stopped pouring too soon.

SOURCE: westinghouse 906 leaks from front door

I’ve got the same make and model which had the same problem …if your sure its leaking from the door it will be coming through where the door jam or seal mounts and then leaking into the wall…..what you need to do is get yourself a tube of industrial silicon sealant and bead some silicon along between the back of plastic door seal mounts and the stainless steel wall lining...then allow silicon to set for 24 hours before running machine again
I believe over time the carcase and doors do warp causing these leaks
Hope this solves your problem

SOURCE: water does not fill .

chances are, your water switch is stuck..
its the thing inside the dishwashe that kinda looks like a plastic mushroom.. (its a float)
sometimes they get corroded with excess detergent.. wiggle that up and down some to free up the float and it just might fix your problem.

SOURCE: dishwasher not emptying

either the pump is not working or the discharge hose is clogged, if you have an air gap on the sink take the hose off and hold it down see if the water comes out by tself if so the pump is bad if not the drain is colgged take out the bottom tray you will need a 1/4 inch nut driver take the plastic screen cover plate off clear it of debris, there is a sharp metal blade in there so be careful, after cleaning it out turn on to rinse and see if it drains if not you will need to either replace the dishwasher or the pump, dollar for dollar new dishwasher time

I put liquid dish soap (not even dishwasher soap) in my rinse aid compartment of my dishwaser...will this hurt the washer? Do I need to get soap out and how?

yes it will foam up unlike you have never seen before
by disassambling the door and removing the risne agent dispenser and very throughly draining the soap it may get all of it out(rinse it with only cold water since hot water promotes sudsing while cold water kills sudsing) if even a few drops remain it will suds like crazy during the rinse cycle (when the agent is dispensed) to remove all suds from the machine fill a cup of white vinegar placed in the upper rack such as if you would drink from it (not upside down) and run the d/w of a normal cycle
a better but unfortunitly more costly solution would be to replace the rinse agent dispenser

if your unit has a compartment for jet dry or rinse agent then you should add and fill that compartment with rinse aid. try not to buy soap with any extra like soap with jet dry or shine plus . because when you fdo that sometimes customer think that they dont need rinse agent . big mistake. rinse agent is deposited at a certain time in the cycle. diod you know that is you use lets say jet dry and a soap with shine plus or rinse aid in soap the machine can over suds? as a tech trust me i have seen it.let me know if i was helpful. drop a 4thumbs up post

Where do I add my rinse agent???

Hello,

I have the same dishwasher, KUDS01FLSS. All you need to do is pour the rinse agent (We use Jet Dry) directly into that circle like plug with the line through it that you mentioned above. It acts like a funnel.
Pour the rinse agent in slowly as it takes time to drain into the dispenser. Just watch the little sight glass to the right of the rinse agent fill funnel. It will begin to darken (or turn blue if you use Jet Dry) as the dispenser starts to get full. I just pour it in slowly and when the rinse agent does not flow down the funnel any longer, it is full. Be sure to wipe up any spills or excess rinse agent. Hope this helps you.

Good Luck,
Tom
