Pals,
I have an Acer Aspire 5600 Laptop. When I try to install Windows XP SP 3, the setup gets stuck at 34 minutes remaining. I even tried installing Ubuntu but that too hanged somewhere (I don't remember the exact place). Please help me.
This issue is one of the very common issues. If you are installing the Windows on a formatted Drive, remove any additional external devices like memory card, usb mouse/keyboard. Now go into the Bios and reset it to Optimized Default setting (restore the bios settings to default), again before you exit the bios settings, go into boot priority settings and disable "fast boot", set the first boot priority device to "Cd-rom" and second to "hard-drive 0", save the settings and restart your system and boot from the cd by pressing "enter" or "spacebar" when asked to press any key. And check whether this helps or not.
If you are installing additional windows on the system, you can try this hotfix from microsoft (click here to download) [or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4e370d0f-bca4-4a2a-9cde-dfe2da16672a&DisplayLang=en]
before installing the new windows
This problem is mainly caused by hardware conflict or unsupported hardwares.
I wish you good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.
