When i turn the drum it sounds like something metal is rubbing on it, what can that be

Could be something simple like a coin or other metal object caught in the drum edge and rubbing as it turns. Next could be a bad or worn bearing surface for the drum causing it to rub metal on metal instead of riding on the proper bearing surface like it should. Metal on metal rubbing usually produces a black powder looking substance so look for that or a shiny metal edge around the drum edges.

The dryer drum rides on a center bearing (plastic on metal mount). In time the plastic bearing disintegrates and the ball begins to rub the metal mount. If left like that after a while the ball will be cut in 2.


Another thing that goes south is the plastic slides that the drum rides on in front.

You have a bad drum bearing. When it heats up the sound goes away slightly. When the drum bearing goes bad it tilts the drum in the front and it is rubbing on the metal front. Check the seal in the front. You could use lub spray but that is only preventing the inedible-replacement. Good luck.

Could be your front glides on your drum housing. They are just Teflon pads that the front of the drum rides on. If they wear down you will get a metal on metal rubbing. The part number is 40116501. The other possibility could be your rear rollers going bad but they usually will make almost a squeak usually. They are what support the rear end of the drum.

if the bearings are failing you don't need to apply pressure as they will cause noise even on an empy drum (you can still put up with this if it's not too loud and it doesn't cause spillages on your laundry). If the noise you're experiencing isn't continuous but it only happens at some point while turning the drum, there is probably something loose within the outer tub, probably the heater, in this case I'd recommend you had it seen by an engineer.

check that all the support springs are connected and one is not broken. It is also possible that something is between the drum and the frame.

is it auto or manual? also do you have ABS brakes?

if you've already ck inside front of door boot call repair acess from front can be tricky to almost impossible without removing complete door boot or worse

it may need a good lubrication job. look for all rolling parts metal or plastics and give a good dose of WD-40 and observe. ba particular to the bushing of the drive motor, the roller and the center bearing that hold the drum.

hi there....sounds as if youve got a bra wire etc trapped between the outer and inner drum..open the appliance door and carefully examine the inner drum you will possibly see the offending wire protruding from some one of the holes in the drum...it can either be removed by juggling it out or having an engineer remove it for you regards Sir Galahad
