Not really a solution, but if you turn it off and back on over and over (like 30-50 times) there's a good chance it might come on and stay on eventually. I have two ViewSonics, different models, that both do that. I've been using that work-around for over a year on both of them.
The real answers are: take/send the monitor in for repair, that'll probably start at around $100, or get a new backlight/inverter and install it yourself, or get a new monitor.
If you are real ambitious, you can open up the monitor and look at the inverter board; if the capacitors are bulging on top then it's the inverter. If the capacitors are not bulging on top it still might be the inverter. I was not able to find an inverter for your monitor anywhere but the part number is 52-5W273003G000. I did find the main board online for about $20; its part number is 70-V7030102G500.
Also found the service manual which is where I got the part numbers. There is an exploded diagram with accompanying parts list. The diagram labels each part with a circle with two numbers in it. The top number is supposed to be the item number as listed in the table. The bottom number is how many of that particular part there is. But beware; the "exploded parts list" is numbered in reverse compared to the exploded diagram. So what is labeled part 1 in the diagram is really part 24 on the list, part 2 is part 23, etc.
Many people have had success replacing the capacitors on their inverter boards for just a few bucks; check out this thread (also look at the one linked in the second postfrom badcaps.net. If you are handy with a soldering iron it's actually pretty easy.

LN46A530 Samsung LCD -half a screen black-stays for 30 minutes, than turn to some what normal, but not quite all. What is the problem , what is the part to replace?

is it completely dark or just very dim or dark on one side? if it's just dark on one side, you have a failing LCD panel, very common for older Samsung panels. If it is completely black on one side split down the middle, you could be dealing with a bad panel, bad t-con board, or a faulty LCD panel ribbon connection.

I have sound on my tv but no picture

This sounds like the back-lights have quit working. This is made up with an inverter (ballast) and fluorescent lamps. I want you to try something. In a very dark room turn the tv on and watch what happens to the screen. There is three things that can happen. first the screen will stay completely black. This means the inverter never fired, and this is usually a failed inverter, but sometimes the power supply may fail. there is also a rare time the main module never outputted the signal to activate the inverter, but this is rare because you can hear the audio. So obviously the main is working at least 90%. The second thing that can happen is the screen will light for a split second then go black. This usually means that you have a bad lamp. These lamps are physically locate inside the LCD panel, and the replacement cost exceeds the price of a new unit. You may even see a dark area in the screen. The slight glow will not be uniformly lit through out the screen. Finally the last thing you may see is the screen has a slight glow. This means the back-lights work, but the video portion isn't showing. This usually means the driver board (T-con) has failed. This is probably not available separately, so you must replace the panel to fix it. And like before, the replacement cost exceeds the price of a new unit. One more thing to do when the set is on and in the very dark room if the screen is black, point a very intense flashlight into the screen. Put the flashlight against the lcd screen and see that you have video moving around the glow of the flashlight.

My monitor showes for a split second then goes black

First, can you attach another monitor to the computer to check to see if it works?

If it does, then your monitor is going bad. Possibly the power supply.
If a second monitor acts the same way, then it's your video card.

LG L1717S has no light

Hi, this is a common problem. One thing you want to observe is that the screen works, what's going on is that the screen LCD illumination doesn't work while the screen display is active. LCD's have screen lamps behind the screen, they are often called CCFL, (Cold Cathode Flouroscent Lamps). The inverter board in the monitor supplies High Voltage power to the lampls, so the colored wires should lead you to the lamps. This is the problem causing the screen to dark. You can research the model lamp type for an accurate replacement. Usually there are 4 or 6 lamps in LCD Monitors.

When I turn on my monitor I can see the Gateway letters come on the screen but then it just goes dark again. It comes on for a split second and then goes dark again.

joel_herrera, Yes, this is a very common symptom of a failing Switch-Mode-Power-Supply and/or Inverter circuit! Very common in 2-4 year old lcd/fpd's. How old is your's? Do you have warranty? Have you tried the Flashlight test? DO THIS! Reconnect lcd monitor to your fully booted PC with a known good WIN desktop screen. Then power "on" the HD2201 and tell me what happens and what you see or don't see after the screen goes BLACK! Shine a bright flashlight onto the screen at different angles and let me know the results. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com BYE

Black screen

How old is the computer? Make sure that the power light comes onto the monitor when you plug it in, should be orange and then turn green when video card syncs with it when PC is turned on. If you are getting black screen when PC is powered on:
1. Bad video card
2. Bad video cable
3. Bad monitor
1Solution: Try using a different monitor attached to this same PC and see if it works. If it does, then its the monitor, its cable, or its power supply. If it doesn't work, then its the video card or the video cable coming from monitor.
