Uniden BC92XLT Handheld Scanner Logo

Originally would only receive transmissions properly for around 30 minutes, after which it would fail to pick up further radio chatter. A problem that runs alongside the one I have just listed is the unit will normally scoll through the different frequencies extremely quickly, but once it stops failing to pick up on anything it'll scroll through the different frequencies at a snail's pace and takes ages. I've already tried changing the batteries but this made no difference. Any idea what I can do about this to resolve the issue?

(I do not believe the Antenna is at fault, possibly the software?)

Hi the signal problem may be cause be a bad antenna and you need to tell what kind of radio device is it? so i can get the solution for you.

    Hello,

It's a Uniden BC92XLT - the Antenna's fine as I've already got a hold of a spare and tried it...it makes no difference.

I strongly suspect it's something to do with the software/hardware inside the unit itself, whenever the scanner no longer picks up radio chatter the scanner at the same time takes ages to then also scan through all the frequencies, but all the time it is able to pick up radio chatter it'll scan through all the frequencies in an instant...that's what makes me suspect it's software/hardware related, but I think I'm safe in saying that the Antenna isn't what's at fault here

Hi there, you need to program it you can follow these steps to program your BC92XLT

Press 1 then Press Hold (You are now on Channel 1)

        Press Func then press E

        Enter Frequency

        Press E

Press Hold two times (You are now on the next channel)

        Repeat Steps 2 through 5

Please let me know if it work.

Do you have this problem with all Frequencies or are you scanning public safety, Fire and Police, Frequencies? If the issue is on public safety frequencies it's not your scanner. They have started encrypting their control frequencies to keep people off of them and some areas are upgrading to trunked systems which the older scanners can't track. There are scanners that can but I don't believe yours is one of them. If it's all frequencies your having trouble with my guess is you've got an antenna problem.

Nope, happens with all frequencies. I'm from the UK and over here only Air Traffic still uses Analogue systems to communicate with Fire, Police and Coastguard now mainly using Digital systems. I only tune into the Air Traffic system but yes it's the same for all services

Hi there,

Kenwood receivers are usually tuned for their intended destination country, hence the frequency "stepping" of the tuners may differ between countries.

Was this receiver originally intended for your country's frequency? If yes, then contact Kenwood customer service for further advice.

If not, contact your local Kenwood service agent and ask whether the frequency stepping can be reprogrammed.

Shudder on full lock turning

Just because you changed the fluid doesn't mean if this is automatic transmission clutch plate chatter that will cure it. I have fixed this issue by using synthetic transmission fluid from REDLINE OIL. You can also try adding 3 ounces of STALUBE limited slip differential anti friction additive, it will not affect the transmission in any way but it does cure clutch plate chatter..

I have a Uniden 525 fixed mount 2-way VHF radio. It has power and picks up weather with the shakespeare antenna. However radio checks have failed and i don't receive anything either. The antenna's tip is...

Yes if the tip is broken, the antenna will receive, but not transmit properly. The make an antenna that has a 32" stainless steel antenna with a small metal "can". Can mount it anywhere.

I have a set of 5 radios. One of the radios has the green light on all the time and is not hearing all transmissions.

The constant green light generally means the radio is in receive mode, or is receiving a transmission. You might check your antenna to be certain it is properly attached, is free from defect, and is seated properly in the antenna port. Also, just for test purposes, try your radio at different volume settings, as the on/off volume potentiometer might have a shorted or dead spot.

If none of the above solve the problem, your radio is likely in need of repair. (Typically around $69 flat rate) If your radio is still under warranty (1 year) return it to the dealer where you purchased it for warranty.

Best regards.

I have the pro 96 for about 2 years and I can hear the squelch sound but its not picking up chatter.

Turn it on, press the manual button, then rotate the squelch knob until you hear silent, press scan and wait to see if you hear transmissions,if not ,you may need to re-program it, to re-program, press manual, enter the channel number, press manual, enter the frequency you want including the decimal point, press E. If you make a mistake, press CLR to erase. You can get the frequency for your state at RadioFreq.com or RadioReferance.com. hope this helps..

Won't pick anything up (uniden BC72XLT)

Not sure this would be a solution but...
Make sure you don't have the Ch. Locked out so it just skips them..

You may also try and let the scanner sit on one frequency that you know has chatter and see if you receive.

This unit also picks up local weather try that feature and you can tell if you reception is working or not.

Receive "Antenna Fail" on receiver

Same problem on my CX-7. I've had antenna replaced one so far. It takes about 30 minutes in the cold (usually on at night on my commute home) to get signal. I agree, during the summer months, everything works fine.
