What OS does your new computer have? What was your old OS? Unfortunately, install codes do change with OS versions and a program for a much older program will not run on a new OS (esp for Microsoft products). This program (in its English Windows version) was coded to run under Win95-WinXP; it probably can't run under Win7. You can try installing in the compatibility mode (for Windows - right click on the installer and select properties and the compatibility tab). However, this doesn't always work. It isn't a program listed in the Windows Compatibility Center for Vista or Win7 (although the Vista version is confused with its search results - 47 items found becomes 11).

Another option is to install an OS that will run the program as inside a Virtual PC program or as a dual-boot option. (Win7 Pro and Ultimate allows you to install XP mode free (a virtual XP computer after you download and install two programs from Microsoft).) Otherwise you will need a valid licensed copy of the OS you need.

I wish that I could be of more help.

Am using version 2.0 with windows xp but it says it has a sound issue. and when i look at the readme it gives instructions only for windows 98. do i need a patch to run on xp and if so where do i get it

There is no such thing, the firm that has created this program has never had to create one because the program is made for XP. The problem is generated by a bad option in its settings - either go into the Options and solve it there (follow the 98 instructions, the work very much the same) or uninstall the program, delete all remaining folders it has left behind in C / Docs and Sett / name / Application Data, then run a registry cleaner like

then reinstalling it in a different location.

I have original eyewitness encyclopedia space universe cd. but when i install it a error message shown in the computer. "[1058] the sound decompression software has not been install properly. please...

Hi ,
This product is not compatible with Windows 7 but it should run under Windows XP . If you are running under XP , I suggest you delete the program , reboot your machine and reinstall the program under Windows XP . If it still fails , you could need to reinstall Win XP or use the recovery disc . Launch the disc , select " install a new version of XP " and choose " repair " when you'll be asked to .
Make first sure you have installed SP3 and tested your program with XP fully updated .

Maybe it is possible to chance the compatibility for the program to a older windows ex windows 2000. To find this go to the icon of the program on your desktop, select it and then right clik on your mouse, choise properties and the choise the compatibily tab and choise there a older windows.
