No, you cannot charge the battery in the camera via the USB port. You need to use the LI-40C or LI-41C charger or equivalent.

Try to reset the camea, and check if that can get rid of the Blue busy thing on your screen.

Try using regular batteries. I did with my camera and seems I can go a lot longer on the regular batteries verses the re-chargable ones

Use a card reader instead of the camera.

Always check the batteries first but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

The problem you describe is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the inside contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe the ends of the batteries and replace them in the camera. This clears up the problem about 90% of the time -- I hope it works for you.

you will need a USB camera lead to plug to the PC then you can copy all of your pictures to the computer

The price to have the LCD replaced would probably cost 75% of a new one. If you can do without the LCD and it downloads the pictures to your PC, at least you've got something.
That camera has a viewfinder, so you can still take pictures, right.
