I just bought this used laptop for my 18 year old daughter who is in the army, deployed to Afghanistan. She needs a way to communicate with her family. I am not sure how to check the computer and make sure it works and has enough space on it. I don't even know how to tell if it is charging the battery. I had to buy a separate adapter cord and batteries off ebay for it. I want to make sure all this works before paying an arm and leg to ship it over there to her. I know she needs this computer really bad but I don't want to send it to her if it is not working good. I have no idea what all the things are at the top of the keyboard. There is an item that looks like a can with an arrow in it. Then next in line is two houses and then a cicle with and arrow and last in line is a circle with and n or z inside it. All that is above the pause and insert key. Can you tell me what all this is and does? Do you have a manual with pictures for the keyboard stuff that I can print out for my daughter? This is our first laptop, so I am stupid right now when it comes to this computer. Please help me asap.
Thanks, A soldiers mom
Dear soldiers mom,
In order to check that the laptop has a working ac adapter (and that the DC power plug is working) remove the battery and connect the ac mains adapter to the laptop. If it powers on and and does anything ..such as loading windows then the machine is getting power ok.
To check that the battery is working fine do exactly the opposite. Remove the AC adapter, put the battery-ies in the laptop and switch it on.
The manual of the laptop is to be found on the following link. This explains a lot about it including the keys on the keyboard and all its functions. (Simply left click and the download will start)
