I bought a wii on December. The last night my son tried to play his wii and the wii Sports Disc couldn't be read by the console. I did already follow the manual recommendations (cleaned the Disk, restart the console) but it doesn't work.

If you have the new kinect xbox 360 dashboard and you cannot get your xbox 360 console to read your game discs or DVDs, you are not alone. An update that was recently applied through Xbox Live makes your discs unreadable. Remove the update by navigating to: System Settings->Memory->STOP HERE! You should see your Hard Drive highlighted, if not move to it and then enter this on your controller: X,LB,RB,X,LB,RB,X Delete System Update will appear, make sure there is no media in your disc drive and select YES. You system will restart and appear to hang DO NOT TURN IT OFF OR MESS WITH IT! After a couple minutes your system will start and you should be able to play discs again.
Some simple fixes: - Turn the disc around. When I first got my Wii I put the discs in backwards pretty often. - Clean the disc off, and check for scratches. Scratched discs cause issues and may not be read. - Try yet another Wii Sports game disc. Maybe it was just bad luck that this one was also broken. - Try another game disc; it's possible it's not Wii sports but the Wii itself that is broken.
Additionally, make use of Nintendo's support page. It's actually pretty helpful with common problems such as this. At worst, after going through all their fixes you'll be able to send in your Wii for a replacement if the problem persists (assuming you're under warranty). Here's a link to the support page for your specific problem.
1. The Wii Sports disc is damaged. Did you try any other games? How does the back of the disc look? Do you know someone else with a Wii? Try another game [or try the Wii Sports disc on another Wii] to determine if it's the game, or the Wii. If it's the game disc -- simple, replace it. If it's the Wii:
2. The Wii laser/DVD drive could be messed up. This is usually a problem with either the laser inside of the Wii's drive, or some other issue going on inside of the DVD drive. The following website sells the DVD drive mechanisms and does repairs on the Wii as well:
Downloadable games are not playable on PS2. If you're trying to play pirated games that you've downloaded from the Internet you're going to need to have your PS2 hardware modded to play DVD-Rs, which is expensive, dangerous, and illegal.
I can only presume that the discs are faulty, just that your relative has a better/newer/cleaner laser to read them. I can't see any other real reason why it would be limited to one brand. The only sure way would be to buy a brand new EA game and test that i suppose. None of the software in the Wii works to limit a brand. Has your Wii been modified?
If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another
disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either
Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be
repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that
