My Canon S520 printer won't print black ink!
I've tried the "clean printer heads" option in the printer maintenance menu, and it still will not print black ink.
I have even replaced the ink cartridge, yet it still won't print black!
Any advice or solutions? Thanks in advance!
Hello,
This printer model use printhead separately from cartridge. The problem is the printhead cloged. To fix this, you take the printhead off and put it on hot water (just the part with printing on paper) for about 2 hours, or overnight. After this time, clean the printhead very well until is dry, (to avoid damaging the prinhead) and put it again in printer. If doesn't work, leave it for more time. A good tip is to use ultrasonic cleaner.
Best wishes !
Hi.
Remove Black cartridge,
make sure its not dry, if that's ok make sure that the small air vent is not blocked (hard to find sometimes)

I just replaced both the black and color cartridges (empty) with new replacement cartridges - Office Max brand. I couldn't get any e-mails or documents to print, although I could get ink on paper when running the Nozzle Check and Print Head Allignment. That doesn't make sense!
I e-mailed Canon Tech Support and was told to use only Canon cartridges. I bit the bullet, went out and bought another black cartridge - this time Canon brand, installed it ,and my printer now works - including color printing.
The color cartridge is still office Max brand. My printer now says I have black ink, but still says the color ink is low (even though it's full).
Conclusion: The Canon printer only works properly with Canon cartridges!

It might be getting problem with the sensor of the Printer which intact to the Cartridge. It need to be diagnose and repair.

Hi it's Gill again. I've been looking around more on the net and I think the problem is our printers need new printheads which I'm told are spare parts easy to change. Hope this helps. Gill

I had this problem several times, had to buy new print head until I found that to clean it you should use ammonia. It really worked for me. You should really try ammonia it does work.

The problem is most likely your ink catcher, it is a sponge that catches any ink when it is being cleaned. you need to remove it and clean it then put it back in. there will be instructions in your manual.
